this was the first year our school was ever part of the ITS so when i got to the festival-and saw 6000 kids-i was like OMIGOD do not let this be my hairspray competition-lol-luckily it wasnts
what are some of the things musical theatre related that u can compete in.
I had my college auditions on Thursday and got called back to Rollins. It was very cool!
I took more workshops that I could ever imagine. Improv, Aerial Theatre, Tap, Dance, Method Acting, Shakespeare, Playwriting, etc...
Our troupe did very well at IEs. We went through a lot of crap this year which caused only 2 events to be brought to State but they got a Superior and an Excellent.
Les Mis and Noises Off were PHENOMONAL. OMG, I just can't get over how good they were.
My school chose to take 5 pieces that got straight superiors at districts (1 got critics choice and one honorable mention) and we ended up getting two goods and three excellents. Scoring was definitely odd this year, IMO, but the mainstage acts at closing ceremonies were fantastic.
I saw History of America: Abridged thurs nite and Millie friday nite. History was AMAZINGLY HILARIOUS and... (excuse me if any lemon bay/lakewood people are on here...) but Millie was just "OK" IMO. I wish i had seen Noises Off. Clearwater is in my district and they rock.
Woot District 4 :)

I thought Noises Off was absolutely brilliant. I enjoyed it so much, it had me in stitches. The other mainstage I saw was Les Mis and I thought vocally it was incredible. I mean gosh, it was just fantastic in that way, I don't know if I've ever seen that many great voices in one place at once before. But I couldn't help feeling very dissatisfied with the entire experience. Like it was supposed to be the epic musical and for me it just wasn't. The girl who played Madame Thenardiae was exceptional, she had some pipes and could actually act. The mainstages were a great experience for me though.
We took five things to state performance wise and I'm pretty sure we got superiors on all of them. I know we didn't get straight superiors on some of them, but all superiors. Actually the large group I was in won Critic's Choice (Comfort and Joy) so we got to perform at closing ceremonies which was really damn cool, Morasoni hall is absolutely incredible.
I did a few workshops, my favorite one was with Ed Linderman, The joy of singing in a Broadway musical. I definently learned a lot.
It was my first time going to state (I'm a sophomore) and it was an amazing amazing experience, I learned so much.
Plus district 5 kicked ass this year, so I'm pretty proud to be a part of it.
We took our One Act, 5 I.E. pieces and 3 tech I.E. pieces and we did fairly well. I didn't get to see as many shows as I would have liked and I didn't get to do any workshops either.
I had my college auditions on Thurs. and I got a bunch a callbacks which went well. It was an overall a good trip. The party Saturday night was pretty cool as well.
Comababy, I saw the same shows you did. I agree with your opinions of them. If anybody went to the second opening ceremonies, I was the blonde who came onstage and booed Austin...then proceeded to attack Johnny Tran and the pizza. (I thought it was a somewhat awkward moment, but that's alright.)
State was AMAZING (other than the fact that my dad called and told me my grandma died right after my scholarship audition Saturday morning). The dance was awesome. It's the only time I've actually danced (and, by danced, I suppose I mean humped).
Got straight superiors on my monologues, which won best of show at districts. Only went to one workshop...was kind of busy seeing IEs the rest of the time. Sighh...'twas a wonderful time.
lovelyspotlight that was you at the opening ceremonies! I thought that was great and a lot of fun!!
I forgot to mension before that I saw the first show of Millie. Technically, the show was stunning, in my opinion (with little exceptions, but that's normal in every show). But I agree, the show in general was OK.
I'm almost positive the girl playing Millie was sick. I felt horrible for her, she must've been distraught. But what can you do...? It's State Comp afterall... half the time we thespians are running around screaming. It's a wonder we all aren't permanently hoarse.

Well, she did cough during that one scene (leading a large number of people in the audience to cough, if you saw the second show). And that was right before she completely blew the end of a song (I can't remember which it was) by going into a meek, wispy head voice instead of belting out a big finish.
I would personally like to take the time to give a huge shout out to whoever that boy was who sang "Run Away With Me" at closing ceremonies. Bravo to the nth degree.

our teacher had to be cetrified as a florida tecaher taht week so we couldnt go!!! =( =( my last year and i had gotten straight superiors on my solo!! sigh..oh well..I did have a BLAST at grad nitE!!!!!! yoo hoo---foam party!
Oh that dance! Believe it or not, that night ended up being a really romantic night for me. And some of the most fun I've had in a while. Certainly a night I will never forget!
