I can't believe your mother did that. I'm so sorry.
That's so frustrating, Lexi. I don't see how your mother doesn't see why you're angry that someone else is profiting off of your hard work. And she did that without even consulting you?
This is a little different, but my mom is often so set on helping out my brother that she's willing to write his papers for him. I could understand her editing them, but she's actually been doing his work for him. I'm shocked that she would, and was even more shocked when she actually asked me to help her. He's not going to learn that way.
I'm sorry, Lexi. I wish she'd at least for your sake realize that she was wrong, even if it's already done.
Banal: I misplaced my hand on my desk and landed it in a container of thumbtacks.
I'm getting a big headache trying to write my paper on the philosophy in Oedipus the King and Antigone.
re: TV, sadly, the Brady Bunch marathon was keeping me entertained all day, but it just ended. I can't find anything to watch now either.

My mother does that too, Emcee. When the sister complains that she has too much homework (she can't get it all done because she's too busy watching Spongebob Squarepants) the mother will get out her textbooks and read the chapter, then explain to her what she should write and why it's correct. She insists that the sister understands because she claims too, but it's so obvious that she has no idea what any of it means. I hate it.
My mom's willing to do it because she's so worried about his grades, though he IS lazy. He wants to study music, and he'll sail through his auditions just fine -- he is so, so admirably talented. But, he needs the grades and SAT scores to get into a lot of the schools he'd like to go to, and my mom is afraid that his grades won't be high enough. Still, there are better ways to help him than to do the work for him. When I tell her I don't agree, she tells me she's not really "doing it for him," but then I find her doing his research and writing his papers, and it's like... "what am I supposed to think?"
What's the use of sticky tack if it won't stick?
Um, my mom would tell me to kiss her ass if I asked her to do my homework.

I do all my own work.
Was the original Company financially sucessful?
The irony of this all is that my mother admits to being a terrible writer, yet she's providing my brother with his essays and thinks she's helping. *scratches head*
Your moms will be sorry when those kids get into college or the workplace and have no one to do their work for them. It's not just a matter of knowing certain things, but of learning the discipline it takes to do more than the "fun part."
My mom knows he'll be fine once he gets to college, because he's a brilliant musician. He just needs to *get in* first. I think it's absurd; I did and still do my own work, and doing the work for the kid teaches them nothing. My brother is a junior this year, so it's the year that really counts, in a lot of eyes -- hence, it's the first year my mother has taken this approach. It's only with writing, though, since he does pretty well in math and science, and needs help with the papers he gets in English and history.

Something tells me that the sister isn't going to go terribly far in life. I know that that's horrible to say, but she just isn't that bright. I think it's Spongebob's fault.
I confronted the mother about it once and she said that I couldn't complain because she lets me skip school sometimes when I've too much work to do. That's happened three times in my entire life and I still do EVERYTHING on my own, I just can't write three papers and fill up 20 pages in my art workbook in one weekend. Not the same at all.
... but at least you do your work. I'm sorry, that makes no sense whatsoever. Letting you skip school so you can do your work yourself isn't the same as letting your sister get away with not doing it at all.
The mother is clearly a very nonsensical creature. ugh.
Mine just called, speaking of.
I took the ace bandage off my wrist so it doesn't get dirty while I make dinner, and it went limp like that on the gayest of the gay men.

She told me that I can't understand what it's like to have a kid who struggles and that I'd do anything for my child, too. Something tells me that I wouldn't. I hate cheaters.
Emcee, what colleges has your brother been looking at?
I would help the child, but not in a way that promotes dishonesty and does the kid no good. That's stupid.
He's looking at SUNY Potsdam's school of music, University of Michigan, Eastman (at U. of Rochester), Oberlin (the conservatory), the music school that's up in Fredonia (near Buffalo), University of Indiana, and maybe Julliard.

According to the brochure I recieved two days ago from Oberlin, the only really important thing for admittance to the conservatory is a good audition. He may get in anyway.
That's what I was thinking.
What instrument does he play?

Ok, I just got this from ibdb:
Your search for 'The West Side Story' did not find any results. Please check your spelling and make sure the search category is correct.
Is that a joke? Seriously. How the hell do they NOT have details on The West Side Story?
Try deleting "the" and see what happens.
He really liked it, so I hope he can. He auditions really well, and he's confident and personable, and everything he needs to be -- except a haver of good grades. He does okay, but he's definitely not a straight A student. My mom heard otherwise, but I have no idea where she gets her info.
He plays baritone and trombone, and he also sings and conducts.
ETA -- yeah, there's no "the" in the title. It should've still turned up hits, but it likely will if you take out the "the."

I figured that out after I posted. But still. That's one dumb search engine.
Your brother should know that Oberlin, OH, is the most liberal place in the Milky Way. I believe that the two republicans that attend are regularly burned in effigy.
I don't really know my brother's political persuasion, since he... is a bit apathetic other than "OH MY GOD GAY PEOPLE HIDE ME!" But he thought the school was really nice, and he doesn't seem to mind the small town thing.
Heh. Potsdam and U of R? I've been looking at those too. Maybe him and I could hang.
He goes to camp in Potsdam and he loves it there.
My sister was going to go to Postdam, but she ended up getting into her first choice school.
