I went this morning and really enjoyed it. I tend to love female-drive, R-Rated comedies. This one was part What's Your Number and part Young Adult. The trailer made it look like The Hangover style humor, but it has a bit of a more indie vibe to it.
Ari Graynor gives one of the funniest, over-the-top-verging-on-camp performances I've seen in a good while. She also pulls of the jump suit very well.
The humor has a strong gay sensibility (there's a joke about a dog looking like a young Carol Channing). Really a fun way to spend a morning at the movies!

I saw this preview before Killer Joe (Killer Joe being NC-17 allowed me to see the Red Band Trailer) and I want to see this so badly. It is playing Upstate in two weeks. I love Ari Graynor. She should be more famous than she is and hopefully this is a long overdue breakout role.
Your point about its gay sensibility is fascinating. It is directed by a man, though I have no idea what his sexuality is, but it is co-written by its star Lauren Miller and Kattie Anne Naylon, who according to an article I read about the film is basing this movie off her own experience as a phone sex operator that was her part-time job in college at Florida State.

Really Jordan? Have any funny stories? What was the weirdest thing someone wanted over the phone?
My first exposure to Ari Graynor was in the off-Broadway play "Trust" and I thought she was kind of bad in it. Then I caught her in a few movies in supporting roles and thought she was much funnier. This truly was a breakout role for me and now I've done a complete 180 and am obsessed. I can't wait to see her in "The Performers."
I know Lauren Miller co-wrote the script, but she definitely had some gay best friend in her ear feeding her a line now and then! The whole film felt like it was created for gay men. It'd be interested to know if the director is gay.

I LOOOOVED "What's Your Number?" and am a proud owner of the "Ex-Tended" DVD edition!! Faris (and Graynor) were hysterical and it should be some sort of crime to be as hot as Chris Evans in that movie.
Did you like "This Means War?" I don't think it was R-Rated, but another female driven, dirty rom-com that I liked.

Posted: 9/8/12 at 6:37pmBachelorette is on VOD. Forget the name, it is not like Bridesmaids. Same amount of run-time as For a Good Time, Call.. and if you have seen Zack & Miri Make a Porno, Bachelorette is like that HS reunion scene nearly extended into one really awkward, unfortunate night. Rebel Wilson was not in it nearly enough and it is not really too broad in its comedy- more black humor. Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan sell the hell out of their roles as self-involved girls who really have internalized issues of running into people in their past. Andrew Rannells has a small role as the stripper but **SPOILER ALERT** we see nothing because he says something really stupid that torpedoes the mood.

Posted: 9/8/12 at 6:53pmI was planning on going to Bachelorette tomorrow morning. I heard Dunst is great in it, and after Melancholia I'm ready to see anything she does. Her role looks a lot like Theron's in Young Adult.

If you have a soft spot for Kiki like I do, you'll be pleased. This is a good role for her. Caplan also has shades of Theron's character in YA (though that is a film I had some issues with) but Fisher, Dunst, and Caplan are three distinct kinds of screw-ups. The guys in the film, that includes Adam Scott and James Marsden, do get their fair shakes for the most part. The girls are so much meaner than the guys are are even if some of them are a bit much, Marsden's character being the broadest character.

Strummergirl- I saw Bachelorette tonight and looooved it! So funny!
Kiki was so perfect and Isla Fisher cracked me up with every line reading. It was quick and breezy; a perfect follow up for Dunst after Melancholia. Now I can't wait even more for On the Road. Can she please finally get an Oscar nom?!

Posted: 9/12/12 at 3:05amally eoyed Bachelorette, and it was nice to see Lizzy Caplan and the always adorable Adam Scott in a mini reuninion of their vastly underated tv comedy, Party Down. I don't get that critics seem to either see it as too mean spirited--or else think the sentimental ending lets down the film, I thought it was pretty great for what it was (I also appreciated that it was... short, as odd as that sounds, it feels like more and more these kind of madcap comedies just go on and on--I loved Bridesmaids but found it a bit to long, and while The Hangover II wasn't all that long I realize, it sure felt it)
