#1Forget Regret
Posted: 8/1/07 at 11:06pm

This was my current Myspace blog posting and I want to share this idea with everyone at BWW:

I have a challenge for everyone who reads this. Have you ever heard of PostSecret? Well, if not, a guy had people send him their deepest, darkest secrets on a postcard anonymously and then he posted them on the web. Then he went on to publish, I think, 3 books of them.
Anyway, my idea is similar, but with a different purpose. Here's what I want:
Send me a note or postcard of whatever by mail of one of more of the following:
1)An apology to someone, maybe you aren't in touch with anymore and wish you could say sorry to for something you did to them. Maybe they're no longer with us and you never got your chance. Here is your chance to apologize.
2)Something you regret in your life, whether it's something you've done, or didn't do.
3)An unfulfilled dream.
My point in this is that writing them down and putting them out there might help some people to let them go, closure if you will. No need to include names unless you want to.
I will post whatever I receive on my blog under the special heading "Forget Regret" and I really hope that anyone who reads this will participate.
Mail your regret to:

Jennifer
PO Box 10724
Tampa, FL 33679-0724

Please pass this along to your friends as well. I think this could turn into a great healing tool for many of us.

uh, no thanks......no idea who you are, and frankly you making money of off other peoples sorrows doesn't seem right.
And may I add that it's really pretty stupid to post your PO box for all the world to see.......

And he's still doing it, too. What's YOUR unique selling point?

I am surprised at all the negative responses. I am not doing this to make money. I have no intention of that. Did I mention money anywhere in my post? The guy who wrote PostSecret may have made it about money, but that is not my intention at all.
This is a project to help people. We all live with regrets everyday and writing them down and getting them out of your system can be the best therapy. That was my only intent. I would then post them on my blog anonymously as a healing tool. Nothing more.
This negativity is why I hesitate to ever post anything. This could be a great idea to help people who just need to get things off their chests.
Please see this as a positive idea and not trash it without thinking. And I have no selling point. I don't care what the PostSecret guy is doing. And why would anyone be uncomfortable doing this? It's anonymous!!!! As to posting my PO box, that's why I got one, so I didn't have to post my real address.
I am actually disappointed now in the reaction to something that could be a positive thing. I don't want to make money off other people's sorrows, I want to help them let go of them.
Well, that's enough ranting and this reaction really upsets me. I try yo do something good, and look what I get. Thanks a lot.

Perhaps if you posted something positive, you'd have different responses

"This could be a great idea to help people who just need to get things off their chests. "

Maybe if people need to get something off their chests, they don't think putting it on the internet to a stranger who's intentions can't be proven isn't isn't the best way to do it.

why post something and then send it to me as a pm?

if i wanted to "get something off my chest" i'd write about it in my blog. or call a friend. or send it to postsecret!

I just wanted those who replied to my post to understand my point, so I thought pming them directly would make sure of that. I'm sorry for posting here at all where I thought people would understand. And I'm sorry for pming those of you who took offense. Please just forget all this. I know I will. This has ruined my enjoyment of BWW completely. And AbbaRabbit, I see you support Alzheimer's research. Good for you, seriously. Why do you look down on other things that could lead to something good? Why is everyone so quick to judge? This is not the message board I thought it was.

I don't think anyone took offense (I know I didn't; I just thought the idea was strange and more than a little quixotic). Or, at least, no one took offense until you came back super-defensive and full of self-righteous indignation.

Well I'm sorry if anyone took offense from what I said, but I took offense from what others posted. I was jut defending myself. Have you ever had an idea that just seemed to make sense to you, that could really make a difference? That's all I was going for. Trying to do something important that might help someone out there. That was my only intention if not executed very well.

ok, since you want to compare the two...

curing a disease that robs people of their dignity as they age untill they die in a nursing home wearing a diaper after losing the ability to walk, talk, smile, eat, recognize their loved ones, and form thoughts once their brain forgets how to tell their body how to work and they go into multiple organ failure = a good thing

asking people to send their regrats to you so you can read them all and then post them on myspace = more than a little strange

and yeah i was not offended. i just thought it was a stupid idea, especially since you already know about postsecret and are bascially copying him.

if this one little post (which was not a big deal untill you made it one) is going to ruin your bww expereice, you dont have thick enough skin to enjoy yourself here in the first place.

Rrentjenn, you aren't the first and you won't be the last person to be disappointed by the reactions you got from a well meaning post. It happens to me all the time.

The lesson to be learned is not to expect anything. Also, what seems to be a great idea to you, may not seem that way to others.

I wouldn't judge this entire board by one bad experience, but that's up to you.

Have you ever had an idea that just seemed to make sense to you, that could really make a difference?

Yes, but I didn't post it somewhere known for posters with a penchant for posting their very honest opinions.
