France Nuyen in the film version of THE WORLD OF SUZIE WONG

Here is a very rare picture of France Nuyen and William Holden during the filming of the movie version of THE WORLD OF SUZIE WONG. Nuyen had originated the role on Broadway and was initially cast in the film. A couple of months into filming she was fired from the production and replaced by Nancy Kwan.

Depending on the sources Nuyen was fired either because she was difficult or she was undergoing depression because of a failed romance with Marlon Brando, still others claim producer Ray Stark wanted Kwan all along and had Nuyen fired.

Several scenes had to be extensively re-shot once Kwan was brought in. If the footage filmed with Nuyen still exists is a mystery.

Holden and Nuyen did wind up making a film together after the SUZIE WONG debacle, 1962's SATAN NEVER SLEEPS
