Frankfurt Gay Pride 2006, and we just got home

just got home.......but have one quick funny story.

Saturday morning we flew from Prague to Frankfurt, for one day before flying back home this morning.

We were on the Zeil, the main shopping street, and notice a medium sized anti-war demonstration, lots of Lebanon flags, etc.
So we go to the restaurant on top of the Kaufhof Galleria, a major department store, have lunch, and then go out on their patio to get some good pix.
After a bit we notice music, I look down and see what I thought was a growing anti-war parade....then I hear loud disco/dance music......I look down and realize it's Frankfurts gay pride parade, after noticing their version of Dykes on Bikes, the drag queens, and the almost nude guys.
We lucked out by just happening to be there.
The odd part was to the left is the anti-war demonstration, and feet from them in the street is this large, noisy gay pride parade........was very interesting to see the two groups interact......of course the pride parade drowned them out......was such a fun time, a jewel among our memories.
I will be posting pix in the next few days.....more later

Welcome home Elphaba - you have been missed.

Now, give me another week or two, and we can perhaps chat about getting you a cousin for Stoli and Zorra.

But first, I cannot wait to see the pictures.

thanks all, Guy.......Frankfurt was actually quite wonderful......from a low of standing in front of what used to be the main MP Station (I lived and worked in that building) and getting very emotional as it was 30 years ago this year I left, to the unexpected parade.....

Oh, wonderful! That's comprehensible you got emotional...
Really glad you enjoyed your trip!

Welcome home Elphaba! I'm glad you had a good time. Recovered from your fall yet?

not exactly Kel. Getting onto the bus when we got off the plane in Frankfurt from Prague on Saturday morning (they bus you from plane to terminal as not many airports there have jetways) I stumbled, and of course my chest hit the railing.....and it hit where I fell before, so my rib(s) are bothering me....am calling the doctor this AM. My right hand is much better, my left pinkie has a ways to go.

Global Pride! That's great.

Welcome back. I have to just tell you, Elphaba, that your avatar is probably my favorite on this site. I guess I just envision the people here AS their avatars, and I get a huge kick out of picturing this long eared, disgruntled cat chain-smoking and posting on BWW.com!

Incognito, I was amazed how hard cast recordings were to find. Frankfurt's Saturn, their music chain practically laughed at me and said all they had was Grease, in english.

I did buy Le Mis, and Romeo and Juliet both in German, and something I think in French, The Sun King, which I assume is about Louis the 14th. So besides those I settled for some classical ones, music of Matthias Church in Budapest, music on St. Mary's Cathedral in Krakow, etc

thanks Blue, took a long time to find one that fit.

Fiction, am working on it....I took over 600 pix, so am going through them all....ugh
