My friend has one...it used to be placed front and center in her parent's dining room hutch cabinet. It was white with gold crap all over it, little gold chains on the sides for the hinges, the faux jewels, and had pink satin inside.
Last year, when cleaning out the home, the executive decision was made to remove "the Egg" from it's place of honor. I'm not sure where it is now, come to think of it.

Does Franklin Mint really make copies?
I was joking.
I used to love seeing them (the real ones) for free at Forbes.
I've also seen some real ones in the Kremlin.

I was furious because the Forbes family gave them back to Russia. Thank God I got to see them before that.
There are two in Cleveland I believe.......one somewhere in the South.
And who knows how many private collectors have and don't make it public.

Posted: 10/10/05 at 9:35pmI agree, Elphaba. I've seen two and they were gorgeous. Nothing that is sold from a tear-out ad in TVGuide could ever compare.

Did you see Maria Feodorovna's (Pauls wife) "Diadem of Sheaves of Wheat" when "Jewels of the Romanovs" was at the Brooklyn Museum? I've never seen such a huge diamond in my life!!

Posted: 10/10/05 at 10:09pmElphaba, I saw 2 at the Hillwood Museum and Gardens in DC, the mansion formerly owned by Marjorie Merriweather Post. They also have the tiara Alexandra wore during her wedding to Nicholas II.

Wow! I want to see that Tiara.
I stood right at the foot of The Red Staircase at the Kremlin and thought of the news reel footage of the coronation.
I got to see the ballet in the Hermitage Theatre in the Winter Palace and sat in the very seats where The Romanovs had not that long ago. Do you remember the feathered fan at Forbes? Nicholas's sister used it at the last big ball. It had a mirror so while she fanned herself she could see who was behind her.
