Watch our for any e-mails which have the similar text. There is a button at the bottom of the message to dispute the claim. I'm sure it askes you for credit card info. Never respond, but go directly to you PayPal account to verify whether or not a payment was made.

I'm my case, I confirmed my my account did NOT pay out this amount.

I've gotten a few of those over the last year or so. Just this morning, I got something allegedly from Ebay in which it "confirmed" my e-bay listing of a Nokia phone -- A phone I don't own, much less listed.

The best way to know if it's a false e-mail is whether or not it uses your full name. Paypal always uses my first and last name in any messages I receive from them.

Anything that looks suspicious should be reported to spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com.

My parents got this email a couple of weeks ago, only it was about a $600 laptop that they had apparently bought. They contacted PayPal directly through their Web site and found out it was a total fraud. Be careful, yos!

I get this 'spoof' (or 'phish') mail all the time. It always comes in looking like it came from eBay or PayPal. Lots of time it tells you that if you don't go there right away (via their conveniently placed link) then your account will be canceled.

Up until this week these emails never had my name on them. They were always addressed to "Dear customer" or 'seller' or 'friend' or some generic word that would work for everyone. This week I received one that was addressed to me, by name. It looked like it was coming from eBay and it said that my automatic credit card charge for selling services had been disallowed. My account was now in arrears and I needed to go there immediately to update my payment information.

The problem with this is that I've only occasionally sold items on eBay. I'm not a regular seller so I don't have a monthly 'seller's fee'. I do have a credit card on file for those times when I do sell something, but there's nothing wrong with it.

I forwarded it to eBay as 'spoof' mail and they got back to me that evening with confirmation that it hadn't come from them. They also said that this was a particularly bad one because of the fact that it looked like it was addressed specifically to me.

The answer is always the same. NEVER use those links in an email like this. Go directly to the site and check out the information there but don't use those links. 99 times out of a hundred they're going to be phish.

I got a similar message last week purportedly from the Denver Center telling me that I had reserved tickets to some show that I didn't even know was playing. I wonder if it's a homegrown phishing scam?
