Free Money in CA!!!

I was watching the news tonight and they had a story about a web site that tells you if you have any unclaimed money. I went to the site, typed in my name, and sure enough, there was an old check from back when I danced at Disneyland just waiting for me. It's only good in the state of CA. The web site is www.searchthevault.com.

I also put in some friends names and found money for them. One of them had 18,000 shares of some stock.

It's always nice to get money you weren't expecting.

I'm having lunch with Sally Struthers later this week. I put her name in for fun and found she's owed almost $700.00 from a court case.

Hm. Someone with my exact name is owed about $125 in "drafts" from an insurance company. How do they verify the identity of the claimant? I mean, could I conceivably send in a claim form even though I've never even heard of this insurance company?

OH MY GOD! I have $917.00 from some insurance court case. A first nothing popped up. But when I typed in my first weho address.. there I was. THANK YOU!

I think every state has an unclaimed property department. It covers paychecks that for whatever reason you never cashed, forgotten stocks, bonds, insurance stuff, as well as contents from safety deposit boxes, etc, checks that were mailed to an old address and the forwarding order expired, that sort of thing.
ETA: to claim, you usually have to prove you are who you say you are, i.e. social security number. If it's a long lost relative, you have to prove 1. they're dead, and 2. you are entitled to the loot. Updated On: 11/15/06 at 07:19 PM
