The fundamentalist wings of ALL religions pervert spirituality into hatred, simply by saying "There is no true religion but ours."
I see no difference between Fundamentalist Islam, Fundamentalist Judaism and Fundamentalist Protestantism and Catholicism.

"But the violence of the Christian right in this country is real, you can compare bombing an abortion clinic with burning a consolate."
In any group of people, religious or not, you have to take into account that there are a few nutcases. The bombing of abortion clinics are undertaken by the nutcases, relatively few in number. The group of people participating in this jihad against cartoons far outranks the nutcase minority.

PalJoey, I need a clarification. What do you mean by "Fundamentalist Judaism"? Who are you referring to, specifically?

Actually, Goth there ARE fundamentalist Hindus. I am not, however, Hindu. I think you were just making a stupid racist joke.
Justthefacts--there are different definitions of Fundamentalist Judaism. Some define it as Jews who take the laws of the Torah as "infallible." Others define it as Hasidism. Others define it as the ultra-right-wing parties in Israel that are determined never to have peace with the Palestinians.
I define Fundamentalism too broadly for most: any Jews who believe that a woman should not be allowed to read from the Torah--and that includes my step-mother. Which makes for lively discussions at holiday dinners.

There are some ultra-orthodox Jews, especially in Israel, who have been responsible for violence, most notably the assassination of Rabin. They are violently against the peace process, do not recognize reform Jews as "real jews" and very extreme in some of the political, cultural and social views.
