Hey everyone! I'm coming to New York this coming weekend (July 22-25) and I'm looking for fun, un-Broadway related thigns to do (I'm going to be with my mother and she's not a huge fan of shows, we've already got that covered so I need other stuff). So if there's anything cool, or any fairly affordable good restaurants, I'd be really happy to hear about it. Keep in mind I am on a bit of a budget, so anything affordable would be appreciated. THanks in advance!
The Met of Art and the Met of History. I believe that both of them have suggested entrance fee's of twelve dollars per person, but you can easily get by with 12 dollars for the group. Also the Moma is free on fridays. There always seems to be something going on in central park, so it's nice to take long walks there and see what you can find.
Exactly. Take the subway to a part of the city you don't know, and just stroll. Stroll through union square, the village, soho - you will always find something interesting, cheap, and fun to do. Even if you end up doing literally nothing, it's always fun.
Stroll down St. Mark's (at night, of course), go to the Life Cafe (if you're a renthead), just do whatever.
Get lost in Central Park. Go see Regis and Kelly.
Oh, and as far as the museums go - the mets are donation only. I once had to go for school and had literally $1 dollar to my name. If you're really short on cash, you can give them $1. You might get a glare, but you'll get over it.
MoMA is free from 4 to 8 on Fridays, The Met (art) is suggested at 20$
For cheap, get a knish or chicken kebob from a street vendor and sit in Bryant park and watch the people---that always amuses me!
Be careful with what you get from street vendors (as far as meats go - hot dogs, gyros, etc.), as they often do not refrigerate their food overnight and store them as is.

Thanks for the tip---I tend to go with the knishes myself, but I have had the chicken with no problems so far, knock on wood! (when I go to NYC, I usually go to Barney Greengrass for a very filling breakfast, and then get a knish or fruit later in the day) I live on mochas, lol!

Go to the Swatch store in Times Square.
Screw Rolex.
The only watch you'll ever need is a Swatch.

If the weather is nice, a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is great! The views are amazing, and once you get to the other side you can get a deli lunch and eat it by the water front and watch the tug boats. It's not a hard walk or anything - or you could bike across.
