I need your suggestions!! I'm trying to get an acting troupe started at are drama-deficient high school. But we have no funding. So, we have to come up with some fundraising ideas. Like things like bake sales, car wash, and stuff like that--it can't be anything major like a magazine drive. Any suggestion!?
At my school, we did crazy day, where people pay, like a dollar to go to school with mismathced clothes, and pink hair, etc. And, it's all profits. theres alot of ideas you can build from there.

Two things...
First: There are businesses out there that will fund raise for you. For example: They (not you) call people in the commnity and say "Hi, I calling to rais emoney for the George W. Bush High School Drama Club. We are selling fozen pizzas. Would you like to help?"
You do nothing and get like 65% of the money.
Second at the high school I went to every year the sophmore class sold ribbons of various colors which meant differnt things: Red=I love you (boyfriends would buy for girlfriends) Pink=Secret Admirer (nerds bought those for pretty girls) Green=You turn me on Blue=Best Friend Yellow=shat, I can't remember. You get the idea.
I suggested Black=I don't like you, but it ws shot-down by the commitee.
Anyhow the things were sold once a year (becomes a tradition) for 25 cents a piece. Here's how you do it:
Print up pages of sign-up sheets. The person pays you a buck and puts the name of the person they want to send each ribbon to on each line while circling the color they want. Then have the kids in your group make the ribbons... buy spools of 1/4 inch ribbon (in bulk from CostCo would be cheapest) tie them into bows and put a stick pin in it so people can pin them on thier clothes for the day. So it's a profit of about 22 cents per ribbon. Then pin the ribbons to the sheets, cut them up by name (you'll have whole pages for just one person) them distribute them during first period. (Have your commitee put them in the classromms the afternoon before.
At a high school of 1200 students, the typical annual sales were about 8,000 ribbons.
These things are the kind thing people put in their scrapbooks eavery year.
Also for lumber, paint etc. Try asking local lumber company for a break. Promise them free advertising, etc. Don't ask Home Depot because they can't give away stuff without permission of the parent company.

How about a goods and services auction. People and buisnesses donate things that people can bid on. You combine with a spaghetti dinner, Business can donate things like jewelery, appliances ETc for the advewrtising. People can donate babysitting time, dogwalking, etc. Restaurants donate dinner. It goes on. My synangogue does this every year and they easily vlear a couple thousand. This is important because it is for the kids who don't have a drama department.
Thanks guys!!! These are all awesome ideas. I love the ones about the ribbon!! I think that'll go over well. Keep them coming!!
These are all good suggestions..but I have a few important questions and ideas.
1.Is this a school activity outside of your school's budget but will benefit the school?
2.If you answered yes to #1, will the shows proceeds benefit the school in some way?
I ask this because the PAC that I work for has school dist. connections and we formed our own Arts Foundation to support bringing in professional shows and have raised several thousands of dollars from the corp. and local business commuinty.
If you answer "yes" to the questions, you migh want to e-mail me for more assistance on where to get money.

I don't know how much money it will raise, and you'll probably need permission, but selling candy around school works well if you have enough people.
Thank you PB. I e-mailed you. I also like the candy idea, thank you guys! These all great, keep 'em coming! The more creative the better!! I need to have a whole long list of possibilities incase the administration shoots some down.
anyone? anything?
Have a talent show. Charge admission, and I'm sure it'll go over really big. My school a few years ago did that, and we raised So much money!

How about a "topless" car wash.
What you do is make signs that say "topless car wash at (place and time)" and then when people show up you wash the whole car except the top. :)
Along with your traditional bake sales, car washes, try some of these:
1) They have an M&Ms fund-raiser where you can order M&Ms in your school colors. I don't know how to get the information, but you can check the Official Site, which is probably http://www.mms.com, if not, Google it.
2) I was just going to suggest a talent show as well, but I see BroadwayDiva beat me to it!
3) Research into specific companies that offer fund-raising packets. For example, my class just finished a cookie dough fund-raiser from Jeanne's Gourmet.
4) If your school is big on sports, ask for permission to stand outside football, soccer, baseball, basketball games to "beg" for money. We are going to be doing this for yearbook.
5) Also, ask for permission to stand outside stores, such as Wal-Mart or any grocery store, asking for money.
6) Candy fund-raisers - a lot of people would buy that.
Good luck!
