What I find fascinating is the underlying sense, with these people, that heterosexuality is such a delicate thing, while heterosexuality sticks. All you have to do is watch Will & Grace and you might be queerized, but to turn straight, you need weeks of emotionally abusive boot camp.
It reminds me of what I learned when I did a little reading into gender studies last semester- historically in the Anglo tradition, there's been a sense that masculinity, for all its association with strength, is actually a very delicate condition. It's easy to "fall" into womanly ways, but much harder to climb in the reverse direction.
Anyway, this all smacks of bigotry, but it's interesting to look at the shape of it.
