She is such a uneducated and ignorant woman. I am starting to dislike her even more than the blonde.

"GLAAD Angry" makes me laugh. I can't help it.
I find no fault with what Sherri has said. I find her to make ignorant comments, at times (and way less often then 'the Blonde'), however in this instance, she has done no wrong. She explained what 'down-low' meant.
I don't know. I am feeling like spewing venom today. I feel like bitching her out. So I am going to. She is a ignorant Puta!
I saw this when it was aired. The problem I had with Sherrie is that she "assumed" the guys on the downlow were gay. Not a mention of bisexuality. That pi**ed me off. However, I am black and I know that a LOT of so called straight black men were on the downlow with no protection. Remember, for a while, it was said/thought that African Americans were immune to the AIDS virus.

Not among anybody involved in public health, it wasn't.

I feel like perhaps it's because AIDS came onto the scene before I hit puberty that I just don't understand why many gay men don't regularly use protection. I'm not being judgmental - I get the whole notion of A) being caught in the moment and being unprepared or B) Well, I don't have a b, but I am sure there are reasons I haven't thought of that are clearly valid to this.
I know Namo likes to refer to this sort of outlook I has as "the best little boy in the world." That's what you call it, isn't it? :)
I really don't think it's about that for me. I've been a hypochondriac since I was about seven, and for the longest time because of my religious upbringing I was deathly afraid of, well, death. There are still times when a little semen dribbles down my throat and I already feel myself seroconverting. So yeah, I get that I'm crazy. I think that's probably what's kept me safe. Just complete and utter abject fear.
There was a discussion on here about this when it aired (way to be right on top of it, GLAAD. I wish the subject line was GLADD MAD) about the ignorance of what being said, not just by Sherri, but by DL Hughley, too. It was a decent discussion, if I remember correctly.
Oh and the comments on that link are delightful.
While I don't think a man on the "down-low" is any more or less likely to bring a disease home to his wife than a straight man who cheats on his wife I do think GLAAD is overreacting.
Also, the term "on the down-low" has worked its way into everyday speech and has taken on another meaning. So maybe they're upset about that.
Sherri Shepherd is indeed an ignorant woman. And you're right Dame. Lately, I actually find her more annoying than Elisabeth. And truth be told, Ms. Goldberg talks a boatload of s#it as well. ETA: Listening to her talk about Mel Gibson and how she knows that he isn't a racist because she's known him for a long time and has spent time with him in her own home, was laughable. Whoopie dear, just because the man didn't call you the n word to your face, doesn't mean he's not a racist. How anyone can listen to that recording, along with past comments that he's made, and not consider him a racist is beyond me.
I guess Whoopi wants to believe the best about her friends. I get that. If you had trusted someone in your home, you don't want to face the fact that you were wrong about them.
I don't know if Sherri should have to apologize, but maybe amend her statements with "this has been my experience and that of my friends." I don't know what's true. I would think iv drug use would have a bigger impact on the spread of the disease than men on the down low, but what do I know?
ETA: and those comments on that site make me want to punch someone in the mouth.
I could care less that she didn't really say anything wrong. Sherri Shepherd is easily the most ignorant and grossly underread person on the panel of The View. Why Babara Walters and ABC keep her on the panel is beyond me. I don't like Elisabeth but her I can deal with. I hate Sherri Shepherd.

They are all a bunch of ignorant Putas.

I think the main thing GLAAD had a problem with was the fact that she was basically claiming that men on the "down low" were the primary reason for the high rates of HIV among African-American women, without citing any proof.
GLAAD not letting ABC and “The View” off the hook!
She didn't know if the world was flat or not.
SHE DIDN'T KNOW IF THE WORLD WAS FLAT!
That was reason enough to kick her off the show. How can anyone take anything she says seriously? And, yes, it becomes dangerous when she states her (extremely ignorant) opinion as fact.

Ok, the one with Jesus coming before the Greeks - well, everyone, I guess - just dropped my jaw.

re the one about the hypothetical transgender boy - I remember that. Her wig is kinda crazy there. This was not long after she arrived, right?
re the one about Jesus and the Greeks. The look on her face when she says Jesus came before everything. She's so sincere. Is it possible she doesn't even know that Christianity is just a sect of Jews worshiping a false messiah?

Remember this humdinger? She's tried to kind semi-retract it, saying she was exaggerating, but I still think there had to have been at least four.

Well, I mean, whatta buncha Mensa students on that panel. Whoopi looking off camera and saying she "THINKS" the Greeks pre-dated Jesus. You know, she's not sure. Glance, glance.
I don't know why I am always surprised by stuff like that. It's not as if Give the Tony's Back to Broadway!! didn't clearly demonstrate that a large number of performers don't actually know anything and are unable to communicate without talented writers giving them words to say.

Elisabeth is just a lost cause. Joy means well and I think I agree with most of her politics in theory, but she has difficulty making sense at times herself.
But Whoopi - I guess I just expected more from her. I think about her old old early to mid 80s stuff that I thought DID have something intelligent and informed to say. Maybe in retrospect it's all trite pablum, but still. When I was in eighth grade I had a cassette of "Fontaine - Why Am I Straight?" that I listened to non. stop.
I wanted to think that maybe when she was saying, "I THINK" to Sherry that she was maybe trying to do her best to not imply Sherri was an idiot. But whatever. I really don't know. Like Mr Midwest hit on earlier, Whoopi Goldberg has on more than on occasion shown her self to be quite mystifying in her views on violence against women.
Yeah, I too think Whoopi was being patronizing when she said "I think."
