I like the premise.

Just to clarify: Hugh and Rachel play three different characters, right? Or are they playing the same characters that do live forever?

Has anyone read FOREVER? I've been meaning to.

"Moriarty" at Aint It Cool News has also seen the movie - he's the one that's been on this from the beginning and had a glowing script review back in the day here: http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=12677

Moriarty has seen the movie but he said he can't post his review yet because he's been "embargoed' by Warner Bros. When they lift that he can post the review. There have also been test screening that are overall positive. Donna Murphy is also in this movie.

This movie comes out Oct. 13. Hugh's other movie, "The Prestige", comes out Oct. 20 so it will be a busy October for Hugh! The trailer for that one is here:

It was booed at one screening at the Venice Film Festival but was given a standing ovation at another one.

Looks to be rather polarizing.

It certainly does seem polarizing - from "brilliant" and "masterpiece" to "pretentious" and "utter drivel"!!! Seems like there's no in-between. Will be interesting to read how it's perceived in Toronto.

Here's Moriarty's review from AICN that was embargoed, which has now been posted:

And on Chud.com - "The Morons of Venice".

I vaguely recall hearing that the film was booed at one of the film festivals. Does anyone else know anything about this?

Look at the Chud link above, munk.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Recently booed at the Toronto Film Festival. Salon.com's reviewer found it not boo-worthy, just "very, very silly".

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I e-mailed one of the webmasters at a movie site who raved about the movie and asked his thought on the reports from Venice and Toronto. Here's his reply.

>>>I should probably get around to posting a review since the embargo has been lifted now that it premiered but yeah, I loved it. Probably one of my favorite movies of the year. Think Hugh should definitely be nominated. Not sure what all the booing/laughing was about in Toronto. I think the movie will really appeal to a certain generation, if that makes sense. Almost all the people I've talked to in my age range (late-20s/early-30s) have loved it. I think the people who booed were perhaps an older crowd that wasn't up for the journey? Remember 2001 was panned by a lot of critics when it was released. It's probably going to divide audiences to much to get any Oscar noms but I still stand by my opinion that it's a great movie. I think it can do well commercially if WB does the wise thing and markets to women as well. I heard a comparison to THE NOTEBOOK which I think is valid in a certain respect. It's heady and sci-fi-y but it's very romantic as well. I hope this answers your questions a little.
