Cooper can be uneven, I think. He's so drop-dead magnificently beautiful that I can't blame folks for not trusting him somehow, and the aw-shucks demeanor can occasionally ossify.
But he's marvelous in MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN. Charming, funny, very moving and sexy as all holy f*ck. And there's that amazing scene in the largely dreadful THE FOUNTAINHEAD where he first lays eyes on Patricia Neal, and it become very clear, in a series of highly heated closeups, that they're going to be laying a lot more than eyes on each other.

He's always seemed so generically handsome that I can't find him sexy. Kind of like George Clooney now. But I think he was a fine actor, and he was always my great grandmother's favorite leading man.

He's wonderfully goofy in "Ball of Fire," again teamed with the marvelous Stanwyck.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

It always seemed to be the hero character and not much else. Fountainhead was maybe his most ambiguous character, they seemed to make you want to respect him. All I got out of that was Cooper as an arrogant ass. Maybe that was intended, if so well done.

Cary Grant knew his limitations, that's why he was a recluse. I heard once he avoid interviews because he was self conscious about his intelligence. I can understand that. But yeah he sucked too. My Dad thought Gunga Din, My girl Friday, Arsenic and Old Lace,and any light role he played he usually nailed, and yeah I agree, but no I wasn't confusing them.

When they tried to serious Grant up in the fifties it was abysmal. His U-Boat film sucked hard, and the movies kept getting worse.
