I just went out to lunch and the gas station here in town was at $2.94 for regular. On my way back from lunch, I passed by the same gas station and it is now $3.04 for regular?!?
My only question is: How long was I gone?
Just wait until you get off work!
I'm afraid to even check our gas prices... on Monday regular was already over $3 here in Seattle.
and didn't the gas sation ALREADY BUY the gas in their tanks?
yeah...good point!!
Gas here in SF area is already $3.35 for leaded and 3.45 for super. Thank goodness I take the "cheap" gas...which is a mere $3.21!!!!
i'm afraid to leave work and drive home because gas prices by my house are historically higher than here in town where i work.
oh, and kmf, obviously the station had a fill-up of fresh gas in the 40 minutes i was gone. obviously.
It was $2.67 when I left for work but it was at $3.16 by the time I went to lunch -- that's in NE Ohio.
my mom went to the gas station about a week back and spent $50 in NJ where its "cheep"
i feel a bit luckier than all of you, i have to buy 93 (premium) and it's just over 3... on the weekends, the gas station I go to (oil city), it's 10 cents off!! Yay!
But it's goin up more, so soon regular will be 3 over here and I'll cry cuz I'll be paying like 3.25-.50
May I humbly point out gas is still markedly cheaper than coca-cola?
And that will mean so much to me the day I can use Coke to fuel my car.

Robbo...are you in NY, NJ or elsewhere...man, at that rate, you'll be paying $7 per gallon at the end the week.
this is in eastern pa and and southwestern nj area. nj is a bit cheaper but not by much...
My dad called me yesterday to say that gas went up 20 cents in a matter of hours in my home town.
So I filled up last night at $2.89.
Even at that low, low price, it costs me $36 to get half a tank.
SHEESH!
Yes, I suppose I did miss the point of you comparing the price of two things that have nothing to do with one another.

30 cents overnight in my hometown.
I wonder if they will just keep it at 2.99 and 9/10 rather than break that psychological barrier of 3.00 on the signs?
i thought that too, then i went to lunch. granted i take long lunches but not that long. $3.04, kids. and i'm sure my hometown gas station will be at least .06 cents more than that...
the area hit by katrina is responsible for 25% of domestic oil production and was the conduit for 30% of foreign oil to enter the country. 12% of america's already overworked and woefully insufficient refining capacity is there. high $3 low $4 is probably a near term reality for gas prices.
Places around here are listing lower prices on the signs but higher prices on the pumps (which are, of course, the actual prices.) I imagine that will be nipped in the bud pretty quickly.
c'mon, jp, it's hard to keep those signs updated to reflect the rapid rise in price.
In Vancouver, we're paying C$1.116/litre, x3.785 = C$4.224/gallon.
That comes to US$3.56/gallon for us.
My Point, JohnPopa, is that gas isn't expensive--nobody complains about the cost of bottled water, or coca-cola, or even milk...I just find it odd that so many people think cheap gas is some given...think about all the work that goes into refining one gallon of gas and it's still quite a bargain...
It's still also 100% more expensive than it was last year and, around here, fifty cents more than it was THIS MORNING. It took the same amount of work to produce it when it was $1.50 a gallon too and that was barely nine months ago.
