Gas Prices

Posted: 9/1/05 at 12:53pmAs perhaps I didn't state clearly enough, my frustration is with people who a.) have other options or b.) could cut costs for gas elsewhere in their budget, but don't; yet they still complain. Speaking as someone who has to bus everywhere and who buys whole milk so that she can water it down to skim and thus save money, the average car-driving person has SO MANY opportunities to cut costs which they simply don't take advantage of, yet choose to instead sit around and COMPLAIN about how high gas prices are.

I would GLADLY take public transportation, if we had any here in SOFL!
That's why the European prices are a logical fallicy--it it pssible to get virtually anywhere in most of Europe by using public transportation. That is certainly not the case in America.

Posted: 9/1/05 at 8:18pmi got gas today for $2.89 (and right down the road there was a $3.39). but the other day a guy from my school was about to fill up and had the pump in his hand when they switched off the pumps and raised the price 14c. i thought that was insane.

Posted: 9/1/05 at 9:05pmI go to college about 30 minutes from home and my mom said that prices at home are 3.19/gallon but only one station has any gas left. This is in South Carolina by the way.

Posted: 9/1/05 at 9:26pmlast night in fairfield county, ct, i bought gas for $2.89. today, for the same gas at the same station, i paid $3.29. absolutley ridiculous.

Posted: 9/1/05 at 9:28pmconsidering that gas has always been much more expensive in Europe and other parts of the world than here, I really don't think we have anything to complain about

The same people who complain will sit in their car or SUV with motors running for 10 or 15 minutes waiting for someone
They will also take the car to go 2 blocks for the Sunday papers
They will also wail & moan about gas prices & than go into Starbucks for overpriced coffee. They will really moan now as the cost of coffee will go up due to increased transportation costs & the fact that much coffee came in thru New Orleans. Folgers had or has a plant there
Maybe Starbucks will eat the increase in their costs & not pass it on to their customers. Yeah right. They know people that frequent Starbucks would pay $ 10 for a cup of coffee

isn't the reason that gas is so expensive in europe largely in part to taxation?
it's going to be a way of life, and we're going to have to deal with it. but right now it's new and seeing gas over $3/gallon is a bit of a shock to most of us.

Roxy, exactly right.
Kate......we waste SO much in this country that when things get tough, we whine..........
we are now being forced to dealing with reality, and it isn't fun.....but it IS reality.
