Gavin & Stacey is one of my new favorite British comedies. They get just the right amount of quirkiness in the show without going overboard. Unfortunately the secondary characters outshine the leads, but what are you gonna do?

Ruth Jones (also one of the writers) plays a really great character. Her deadpan delivery and quirky job history are hilarious.

Alison Steadman is superb as Gavin's mother.

And of course you can't watch this show without mentioning the quirkiest character of all, Stacey's Uncle Bryn played by Rob Brydon.

For those of you who have seen "Love Actually" Stacey is played by the actress who was the stand-in for the nude scenes.

So if you like quirky characters, rent Gavin & Stacey from iTunes or Netflix.

eta: Also love the theme song "Run" by Stephen Fretwell.

I hate how much I love Gavin and Stacey. It's just so genuinely warm-hearted. It's one of the few modern sitcoms I'll happily watch with my parents. I can't recommend it highly enough. Even if you've reached your James Corden Overload Point, the show is still wonderful.

"Even if you've reached your James Corden Overload Point"

I've reached that without even watching this.

Goth: I take back everything I've said about EastEnders. It's been going through a great phase this last year and I've got back in to it.

I'll let you know in 8 or 9 years when the US gets to that point. I wish they'd speed us up a bit. I think we're up to somewhere around 2006. Lisa has just come back to share joint custody of Lou with Phil. On the good side, we're still getting episodes with Wendy Richard. And we have the second Sam Mitchell who I like better than the first.

I may be coming to London in May, so maybe I can catch some of the current episodes, even though I probably wouldn't recognize many of the characters.

It was fun to rent Hotel Babylon. I saw Melanie Owen and Dennis Rickman. And even Little Mo Slater made a guest appearance on that show.

The first season of "Gavin and Stacey" is only on DVD in the States. Gavin & Stacey Uncle Bryn goes from being sad to REALLY annoying; never ask him to order in an Italian restaurant. . .

fflagg you can get Seasons 2 & 3 on iTunes. If you rent them, each episode is 99 cents. If you buy them, it's $2.99 an episode. Or I think you can buy an entire season for somewhere around $25.

I accidentally fell in love with this show. I was looking for a new show to watch and browsed through iTunes over the summer. I saw one episode and was completely sold.

I'm sad it stopped at three seasons but the episodes available are comedy gold. I visited London in October and scooped up the complete series on blu-ray. Highly recommend this show.

:) glad to see more people discovering this! I agree with Weez that it's one I can happily watch with my Mum-it's a 'family' sitcom.

I also love the Welshisms-living in Cardiff which is neighbour to Barry -there are a few 'in jokes' in there too that I appreciate!

If u think Ruth Jones is good in Gavin and Stacey, catch "Hattie" the biopic of Hattie Jacques (Of Carry on fame). She is sensational.

***Possible Season 2 spoiler alert

I just watched the episode where Ruth Jones does the mechanical man busker for money in the town square. She is really excellent.

"And we have the second Sam Mitchell who I like better than the first."

She disappears and they bring back the first. A bit like Barbara Bel Geddes and Donna Reed in Dallas.

Although, ofcourse, Barbara Bel Geddes didn't have to have reconstructive surgery after losing half her nose to a cocaine habit.

I watched the last episode of Season 2 last night. Then I realized that iTunes doesn't have Season 3 for rent, only to buy. Booooo!!!

***semi-spoiler alert***

Nessa was sitting on the sofa reading "The Satanic Verses". Gwen asks her what it's about. Nessa says something like "I can't tell you because I don't want a fatwa on my life."

I love how quirky funny this show is/was.
