Gay 11-year-old art critic dishes Christo

From today's NYTimes:

"Her 11-year-old son, Samuel G*******e, had no doubt that the gates were art. 'Art is Fauvism, Pointillism, abstract,' he said, looking at rows of pleated nylon fabric floating slightly at the whiff of a breeze. 'This is Christo - is that his name, I forget? - this is his art, his own interpretation.'

Samuel liked knowing that 'The Gates' would be on view for only two weeks. 'Like all art, if it's always there it doesn't feel so special,' he said, with the savvy of a shrewd museum director. 'It's like a special Matisse show at a museum. You feel lucky if you get to see it.'

"Is that his name?" Of course you know that's his name, Little Miss Thing! Like a special Matisse show, indeed.

No, it's not in the article. It's just Namo's deductive reasoning.

If the Fauvism reference didn't confirm it, the "is that his name?" definitely did.

Dear lord, no, you don't have to have sex to know that you're gay. And Samuel is a FFD, future friend of Dorothy. If not, I will eat my jimmy hat. (Remember how mad BroadwayTheater11 was when I told him he was gay? FURIOUS. Then he came out six months later.)

I knew I was gay LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG before I stuck it in. Actually, I had it stuck in first. No matter...I was a raging queen before I ever touched another man.

Certainly when I was 11 and slipping on my 'stockings' while singing, 'Anita's going to get her kicks, toniiiiiiiight...'

Beaver, the information being withheld from you is that the kid is from London. Rather than being gay, he probably has gotten a better education than an American kid.

Actually, Samuel would be fun to have at brunch with about a dozen other dishy queens. Gay? British? Who can tell the difference. Regardless, the kid is gay.

Please...he mixed his moms cosmos!

Oh...and I was out before I ever even kissed a boy!

That kid probably has second row-center seats for that wall-to-wall Sondheim concert.

And a pass to the after-party.

Actually, I think he might be singing 'There Won't Be Trumpets'.

No, rath, get it right!!

He's soloing on 'There Won't Be Trumpets' and he's dueting w/ Cook on 'There's Always A Woman'.

Apparently Samuel's favorite musical is ANYONE CAN WHISTLE.

Duh, robbie. His favorite musical is SUNDAY IN THE PARK.

No. Though he loves Children and Art and knows all the lyrics, his favorite show is Mame. He once strutted and shimmied Bosom Buddies with Bea Arthur in tow.

PS - They're not ponies. They're "Suttons".

No, it's not. We discussed it over Gauloise's and a fine Pinot. SUNDAY, Samuel feels, is too self-referential. ACW is the show that is the Rosetta Stone (his words) of Sondheim's canon.

'Circus Suttons'

It's too alliterative for me!

'Prancing Suttons' might work though!

Anytime I hear about "Wall to Wall Sondheim" it makes me want to cry.

Can they postpone it for a week?
Then I can be in town to see it.
Sigh.

It figures I'd miss it by a week.
That's just my luck.

Careful, Priest...or I'm gonna start calling you Samuel.

Well, robbie, that wouldn't work too well.
It seems I have different tastes than him.

I saw the Gates when I was in NY this weekend and found them to be an eyesore.
They looked like a bunch of orange trash bags, $21 million orange trash bags, that were let loose on Central Park.

Maybe I just don't get modern art...

I must point out that that $21 million did not come from the City (and, therefore, not from taxpayers).

Sometimes people forget that we're not paying for this.

re: Gay 11-year-old art critic dishes Christo

Yes.
But $21 million is $21 million.

I am not dissing the artist's right to do this.
It's great they could raise the money.

All I am saying is it hurt my eyes.
