To Float
When I make a gesture to light a candle for somones friend going to iraq & I get blown away with " You are full of crap " or when the same person ( & others ) hinting I was everything from a KKK member to Damien 666, you tend to get defensive. Thanks for you post & while we disagree with a number of things, at least you can be civil. I appreciate that & respect that.
By the way, I added to my post so you may want to give it another look see
Another thing that could be contributing to the sex abuse scandals is the fall in the number of clergy. It used to be that most churches had more than one priest. My church at school used to have 3 priests, now there is only 1. I wonder if the lack of inter-priest support made the priests more likely to abuse since they didn't really have a support network. Does any of the Catholics here know what kind of counseling if any the church offers for priests? I know they can take Sabbaticals, but does the church have a counseling program available to them? If not, that would definately be a good idea. I also think psychological screenings and such should be taken into account at Seminary. I am more of the fix the problems type of person rather than sit and complain.
Actually, the Catholic Church is now coming up with a communion substitute for the gays. "I Can't Believe It's Not Jesus".

I think most people have lost sight of the fact that Holy Communion is the ultimate act of forgiveness. It enables the Divine Presence to enter one's being. How does one's sexual preference fit into this?

Guess it depends on what else goes into your mouth.

Namo, that was absolutely disgusting!

Did you expect anything else or anything involving good taste from good old Namo? Really

It was the OBVIOUS answer to the question.
Oh, and Roxy, who asked you? Just FYI, my ex-lover the Catholic priest with whom I used to enjoy sodomy, would ask the same question.
what i'd like to know is who wore the cassock in that relationship, namo?

We travelled in more of a leather/denim crowd.
Namo, you always put your two cents in when I say something so why are you getting your knickers in a twist over a harmless remark. If you dish it out, you have to be ready to take it. You cannot be thin skinned. Last time I heard there was still free speech. No GWB took that away. All kidding aside, lighten up. You will get worry lines on yur brow.

You say many many dumb things that I couldn't ever be bothered to reply to, so please, don't overstate the case with which I engage with your ideas, such as they are.
Take extra snotty pills tonight. Is it that time of the month ?

That's one quick misogynist comment before beddy-bye. Nite-nite!
The Bible has a lot to say about this topic and it's very clear on what is acceptable in God's eyes. Most people choose not to strive to live by bible standards or even accept it. Church traditions and tickling the ears of the congregation members is more profitable. Funny,it was good enough for Christ though.
As one clergyman frankly told me. "I know what the Bible says. I also know how my bread is buttered".
Wishing not to discredit anyone or get into any more hot water. I'll leave this discussion to those who feel differently. We ALL reap what we sow.
What exactly DOES the Bible say on this topic?

Which topic? Gay Catholics or denying communion? I'm cornfused.
whatever it says, it also says not to eat shellfish.
From what I know Jesus doesn't actually say anything about homosexuality. It is mainly (or maybe only Paul) who says anything about it in the New Testament. Its in the old testament, but a lot of things don't carry over from the old testament. I would be interested in the original greek and latin to find out if it actually mentions homosexuality in the New Testament or if that was implied and passed on.
Oh Pleassssssse......If you need to receive Holy communion, just do it....No one will throw you out of the church....It is between you and our lord.....
But not if you're wearing a sash. Then the priest decides what is between you and the lord.
I heard that!!!!! or maybe a Pink Gown!!!!!

As a Eucharistic Minister, I have been instructed not to do anything that would cause public oputrage (rather funny when one considers the present situation the Church is in). Therefore, I would NEVER refuse the Eucharist to anyone who asked me for it.
I feel horrible that the governor of New Jersey has had to change religions because his Bishop was denying him Communion because of his pro-choice political stance.
Zola. Love the new icon. You are definitely wearing your Sunday best.

Zola, if you are serious about which parish I attend, send me a PM.
We've just been blessed with a dynamic new pastor who is doing great things for our church. The very first thing he did was take down the old copy of da Vinci's "Last Supper" because it depicted "13 men sitting in mathematical groups of 3, but neglected to show the women, children and animals that were surely present at the Paschal meal". Don't ask me where he found it, but it's been replaced with a lithograph of the Last Supper with men, women, children and dogs (scampering under the table). It represents how EVERYONE is welcomed at the Lord's table.
