I was surprised it hadn't been posted, too, but found it too depressing to do so myself. Israel isn't precisely the picture of gay tolerance everywhere*, but Tel Aviv is about as good as it gets - the heart of secular, cosmopolitan Israel. A religious whack job stabbed someone at a gay pride parade a few years back, but there's never been anything like this before.
*Though in many legal respects it's better than the U.S. - gay marriages performed abroad are recognized in Israel and gay people can serve openly in the military, for a start.

Actually, this is especially depressing because Israel HAS been the picture of gay tolerance in the Middle East, especially in Tel Aviv.
But the ultra Orthodox have the same prejudices as religious fundamentalist Christians and religious fundamentalist Muslims, and the ultra right-wing Shas party has been making uglier and uglier anti-gay statements for years.
They like to say in Israel that when they hold a gay pride parade in Tel Aviv, the whole city joins them on the streets to celebrate, but when the hold the gay pride parade in Jerusalem, the whole city joins them on the streets to throw rocks at them.
May the dead rest in peace, may the killer be brought to justice and may something like this never happen ever again. Amen.
A spontaneous memorial and protest in the streets of Tel Aviv.

So very sad to hear this news but happy to see the video which PJ posted.
I was in Israel 1 year ago this month. I was on a trip from birthright and one of the people I was with was gay. He didn't tell any of us until he saw groups of gay people on main streets of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. When he saw that nobody was "bothering them" and they were being accepted, he decided to come out to us, knowing that it was a safe place.
How sad to see things going backwards, not forwards.

I would say that..
theatre nerd.
haha
SO SAD! :'(
I am pretty sure it wasn't an ultra-Orhtodox Jew. They take their Sabbath day very seriously, and even the total zealot whackjobs (the ones likely to have this level of disgusting homophobia) wouldn't fire a gun on the Sabbath day. It doesn't have the signs of Islamic terrorists either...it wasn't THAT public of a venue and they usually lay claim to these sort of attacks.
I hope the killer is caught and brought to justice. Hate-based crimes are disgusting enough...the fact that youth were targeted brings it to a whole other level of low.
