Gay bashing in Seattle...

Dang, just found out a very friendly bartender at my local hangout was gay bashed last weekend, in the heart of the gay neighborhood here in Seattle. Ugh! Six guys beat him and his partner up. Very upsetting.

Yes it is. He's a very nice guy, always has my drink ready by the time I make it to the front of the line.

We get in this comfort zone that it won't happen in our neighborhood... fortunately, the last time this happened the guys were caught and the judge showed no leniency. Let's hope they get caught this time as well.

Hope they catch 'em. Just before I left Seattle a gay man was bashed--I mean REALLY bashed, hospitalized--outside of the Timberline by some kids who were part of some evangelical Christian sect (they were Russian immigrants). They were caught and put on trial where some nice Christian folks rallied outside the courthouse to show their "support" for the youth. I'm happy to say those little bastards are doing time now and may have even been deported for all I know.

This breaks my heart.

There are times it takes ALL the willpower not to devolve into a sense of pessemism and despair.

All the best thoughts for everyone touched by this action - especially for the victims.

I remember a waiter in the Dupont Circle area of DC as a victim of a gay bashing a few years ago. I don't recall whether or not those responsible were ever caught.

The good news is a witness got the liscense plate number on the getaway car, so they have a solid lead to pursue.

So sad. I lived in Capitol Hill a few years ago. Met some wonderful people there. I saw my first and only Gay Pride Parade there.....

Truly disgusting. Bashing has gotten to be so bad in San Francisco that there is now a patrol of men in the Castro as a security measure, and we have all been told not to walk in the Castro or South of Market area alone after dark. It just is not safe.

Borstal - I was at Timberline that night! It was the Saturday of Pride weekend. Talking to friends over this, apparently there's been more that just not getting reported.

cheeze, I had not realized it had gotten so bad there.
Were I still there, I might go down, but one of those suckers would lose an eye or anything else I could grab onto.

I remember witnessing a bashing in the Castro years ago, when a couple of lesbian friends were visiting.
We were walking back from dinner, and this guy ran down the street, hit a guy, yelled "faggot" and took off.
Eveyone on the street froze, in shock as we where shocked it coule happen there.
And then we all came to life, chased him, a couple of guys sat on him til police got there.
I remember Sherri, one of my friends asking "Does this happen often?" and at that time I could say no.....
It really makes me want to hurt the basher back......no matter how wrong that is, it just does.

wow, I'm shocked that 80% of hate crimes in King County go unreported......but then maybe I should not be as so many rapes go unreported, as I imagine the same stigma is attached.

At least they got the license plate.

I thought it really honorable that the victim doesn't want them to do time, but rather be sentenced to work in the gay community.
I would want them to burn.....
