BOB-
Go to a less liberal site.
I can't believe how close minded you are.
I hate ignorance. Go to a Bush site.

I am mixed on this one BG2. I think that they have a valid point in saying that straight men could pretend to be gay to try to dodge the draft. I think they should lift the don't ask don't tell policy and let whomever wants to serve, serve.

That would be the way to go. That is the ONLY way to go.
Well, sum--that's what we want. to. remove. the. ban. on. gays. in. the. military. so. that. it. is. not. an. issue.
I understand.

Damn, I am nervous. I do not want a war to ruin my life, or perhaps end it! I have too much to live for...and in this case, I do not find it not patriotic.
its bobo
And i am extremely liberal.
I don't think that the idea of a draft is good for any of us, gay or straight. Let's hope it doesn't come to this.
Especially if Mr. Roddick were to be drafted. Unless him and I were drafted together and we had to share a bunk in some small little room where there was not much running water so we had to conserve it by bathing together which could take up to two hours a night because it's very very dirty in Iraq. Let's not even mention how cold it is over there at night. We would probably have to find our own way of making heat.

Wasn't there a very well known ape that was named Bobo?
theres not going to be a draft. get over it.
But what about me and Andy sharing a bunk and a bath?
"But what about me and Andy sharing a bunk and a bath?"
Record and then I see a straight to video release.
Dolly, there would be nothing straight about it.

Believe it or not, I was being sarcastic. This sh*t freaks me out, so I would love to know what info helped you feel so sure about no draft.
I was part of the last "draft number lottery" before we went to an "all volunteer" military. My draft number was 125 and I breathed a huge sigh of relief since the year before they only took as high as number 50, if I remember correctly. Our nation was just winding down from Viet Nam and everyone, including people who considered themselves to be conservative, were sick of war, of kids dying for no visible purpose, and of the politics that had put us in the no-win position that we were in. The time was ripe to abolish the draft and it was done. The gay community had yet to find a voice so I have no memory that the issues that you guys are discussing were part of the discussion back then. Certainly discrimination was the norm...as it was(is) everywhere in our society.
I'm not so sure, in our present political climate and, under our present administration, that I'd go out on a limb and scoff at the possibility of the reinstatement of the draft. In a society willing to accept the Patriot Act as necessary, it's obvious that it ain't the 60's and 70's anymore! As long as we're going to allow ourselves to jump into every conflict around the world...with an almost religious fervor that we must be right... then there is going to be pressure brought to bear on supplying young people to fight the battles...and you can bet that if that happens, sexual orientation is going to all of a sudden miraculously stop being an obstacle. They'll take every able body. Including Andy Roddick...:)

"with an almost religious fervor"
With the half witted shrub in office now, there isn't any "almost" about it.............
Hate to sound like the old guy that I am, but...I hope that everyone with a strong opinion is registered to vote...and gets involved in the political process. There is a fundamental erosion of individual rights going on right now in the name of national security and, like it or not, the power behind that movement won't be tempered until rational voices rise to remind everyone of why there is a bill of rights.

amen to that. I am MORE than ready to step into the voter's booth this fall. Bush is a danger to individual rights, national security, and America's position in the world. It REALLY disturbs me how people do not vote and do not make an effort to know FACTS.. just 'opinion'.... I get SO repulsed by my Bush-lemming relatives (EVERONE in my bloodline but me) who take every little line out of the administration's mouth as gospel. They make no effort to seek facts from independant sources.. it's ridiculous.. and you should see the ANGER they have toward me for not supporting a 'man' who feels teh need to enshrine me in the constitution as a second class cictizen
Just remember that Bush is as much a "symptom" as a "cause" of what's going on. He can only take the actions that he takes when he has support of others who believe they have a mandate from us. There's an old saying that "the President proposes and the Congress disposes". Bush is an easy target so vote your heart in the presidential election...but the real power lies in the Congress and the statehouses. That's where your vote can have the most long-lasting effect, in my opinion.

I agree wholheartedly and feel just as strongly about congress as well. Bush, however, is very much the figurehead of the disturbing movement.
