But he was clearly adored and in his latter interviews it seems he was aware of that, at least.
I hope he could feel the love- he deserved to.

The academy generally waits until someone dies until they decide on this type of honor. Gave up on the Oscars after last year. First time in my life I will not be watching next year.

^ Roxy, the Academy don't give out posthumous honors. At least I don't think they do.

They don't. Honorary Oscars are always given to living people.

I stand corrected. They do have a tendency to either never reward someone with an Oscar or give them one a few years before they pass. Going forward, it will not change. I am done with them anyhow but just made my note in passing.
