Our Phyl's lovely avatar reminded me: Whatever happened to her?
Wasn't she awesome in COMA? She totally made that movie and had the interesting distinction of being the only convincing female character in a Michael Critchton joint.
But it was her performance as a sexually repressed, possibly schizophrenic radio talk-show host in CHOOSE ME that made me love her. It's such a great movie you gotta see it. Totally unique.

Posted: 6/9/10 at 12:45pmI just watched her production of Antigone the other night. She was tremendous. I think she makes a lot of (French) Canadian movies these days.

As I told Phyl, I first fell in love with her in "Anne of the Thousand Cleves."
Also loved her in that bizarre "Trojan Women," with Vanessa Redgrave, Irene Pappas, and, oddly, Katharine Hepburn.

It's really kind of wonderful. I'm not sure why I said "bizarre," except possibly the fact that it exists at all.
But I think Genevieve has a false nose. So be warned.

Seriously? That's hilarious, because I thought she looked weird on the dvd cover art but just assumed it was a quirk of whomever had drawn it!

Once again, if you haven't seen CHOOSE ME, it's really somethin'. Lesley Ann Warren is also in it and it may be her best performance, too. Woozy, romantic, and bizarre...plus it has a Teddy Pendergrass soundtrack! Do NOT MISS!

Posted: 6/9/10 at 1:06pmHonestly, I seem to recall a more "classical" nose. I might be confusing it with something else.

Reg, I just found a clip of the movie on YouTube and her nose looks normal, so it must be something else you are thinking of.
BBoy, I have put Choose Me on my netflix queue!

Dude, that's not Genevieve's adorable little pug nose. That's rubber.

Posted: 6/9/10 at 1:12pmShe is amazing in An Act of the Heart, if you can still find it. One rainy Saturday afternoon decades ago, I walked into the Thalia and sat alone and watched it. By the end, I felt like I had been living through her for 2 hours. But warning - it is a difficult, tragic story.

I remember it--TROJAN WOMEN--being very, very sixties. And I forgot that total hot bear daddy Brian Blessed was in it.

Love Brian Blessed.
From Pauline Kael's review: "A false nose give Genevieve Bujold's mad seeress Cassandra a classical look, and the actress plays with a bursting conviction."

Reg, you are of course right (even before I saw the Kael confirmation). I only briefly skimmed the clip the first time.

It is very 60s and takes itself very seriously.
But you're going to see four great actresses just goin' at it. You'll have a good time.

Posted: 6/9/10 at 1:23pmIrene Pappas was Katherine of Aragon in "Anne of the Thousand Days," wasn't she? She's Helen of Troy in this. I don't really know her work beyond these two films.

I will watch it this weekend.
Also, Borstal should be happy to know I moved Choose Me to the top of my queue, meaning that I'll have to wait a little longer for The Facts of Life Season 4, Disc 3. It better be worth it!

Let's not forget "House of Yes," as we're assembling the Genevieve film festival.
That was my first experience of Parker Posey.
