"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the president to explain to us what the exit strategy is,"

- George W. Bush, April 9, 1999, criticizing President Clinton for not setting a timetable for exiting Kosovo.

"I think it's also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn,"

- George W. Bush, June 5, 1999.

Check out Joshua Franks' oped in today's Metro. It is exactly what I've been saying forever. I wish I could find it online but Metro blocked that section.

'And the definition of success as I described is sectarian violence down.'

THAT'S his definition of success????

BUSH:

"But slowly but surely, the truth will be known. Either we'll succeed, or we won't succeed. And the definition of success as I described is sectarian violence down. Success is not, no violence. There are parts of our own country that have got a certain level of violence to it. But success is a level of violence where the people feel comfortable about living their daily lives. And that's what we're trying to achieve.

I'm asked all the time about strategies. I liked what James A. Baker and Lee Hamilton reported back after a serious investigation of Iraq. I liked their ideas. And it's something that we should seriously consider. And their idea was, is that at some point in time, it makes sense to have a U.S. presence configured this way, embedded with Iraqi forces, training Iraqi forces, over-the-horizon presence to provide enough security to know that people will have help if they need it, but put the -- more onus on a sovereign government of Iraq, a presence to keep the territorial integrity of Iraq intact, a special ops presence to go after these killers who have got their intentions on America. It's an interesting idea"...

John Edwards:

"President Bush vetoed a bill that supports our troops and ends the war in Iraq that he declared won four years ago. Congress needs to stand firm and strong. Congress should answer the president's veto by sending him another bill with a timetable for withdrawal. And if he vetoes that one, Congress should send him another and another until we end this war and bring our troops home."

Russ Feingold:

"I won't support a supplemental spending bill that doesn't have binding language to redeploy U.S. troops from Iraq. There's a lot of talk right now about Democrats getting the President to sign a bill that only has benchmarks for the Iraqi government to meet. But we're long past the point when just setting benchmarks was enough. Even if funding for the Iraqi government is conditioned on it meeting those benchmarks, that misses the main point — which is that, whether or not the Iraqis meet their benchmarks, we need to get out of Iraq so that we can focus on the national security threats we face around the world. And if those benchmarks aren't binding, then they are nothing more than suggestions. The American people aren't asking us to offer suggestions to the Iraqis — they are asking us to bring our troops out of Iraq.
"The next step to ending the war isn't to give in, but to step up the pressure on the President. I'm pleased to be working with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on a bill to end our open-ended military commitment in Iraq. Now that the President has rejected the will of the American people with this veto, our bill, or some other proposal to end funding for a failed policy, should be the next step to end the war."

Also like why did Billy the boob shut down all military bases worldwide when he was in office? Hmmmm, red flag should've gone up with that one. But than again all the libies were all too happy to have the boob in office. As long as it wasn't a 'a rep' in office telling them how to live their lives.

Yeah, that was whack. The US caught with no military bases in the whole wide world! What were we thinking?

Gosh, I know. And America should be grateful for you blowing the lid off this previously hidden issue, Amadman5. When my friends in the military hear about this, particularly the ones stationed at military bases worldwide before, during and after the Clinton administration, they're gonna blow their stackes!

Thank you again, A.

bump.....

I have a question, hopefully I can get some help from some of you.

Which military bases in the US have a larger number of soldiers that go to Iraq?

I'm doing a research project, but I am having a hard time finding a good answer to that question.

So if you are able to list a few bases with a larger number of soldiers that go to Iraq, It will be very greatly appreciated!

Thank you SO much all!
Best,
Anthony

"...less sectarian violence, not no violence..."

Can you imagine a candidate for Mayor of any major city claiming this as a goal?

I can't help but wonder who Billy The Boob was and why we allowed him to shut down all our military bases.

I was hoping it would be about Bush's exit strategy from the presidency - he can't exit fast enough for me.
