I like "Inspector Gidget."



When I was working at a box office down in Santa Monica in the late '80s, they were just beginning to build the Third Street Promenade. There weren't that many restaurants open along that path yet, but one of the originals was the Broadway Bar & Grill, which was right on the corner across from the Santa Monica Mall. We used to order lunch from there... and we got to know the staff pretty well. One of the hosts, a middle-aged female, was a real sweetheart. We'd always ask for her. Her name was Gidget. Her real name was Gidget. I asked her once... "So, how did you end up getting your name? Were your parents a big fan of the movies? Or the TV show? Why are you named for that character?"

Her response was... "Well, you've actually got it backwards. I wasn't named for the character. The character was named for ME. I'm Gidget. The real Gidget... that the stories were based on."

I thought that was SO very cool. Who knew?!?!
