46 years ago, Gidget got her own TV movie of the week on ABC. And this time, she was played by Karen Valentine, moved to New York and got a cheap apartment in the Village, where her landlord was Paul Lynde. Because, who else would be your landlord in the Village on a TV movie of the week on ABC in 1969?

Several years ago, I saw a stage play in Chicago that was based on the original Gidget book. It was horrible and I left at intermission.

I recently found Antenna TV showing the Sally Field Gidget Program and man, the writing was just so much smarter on family shows in 1965. Also, it was nice to see a young Michael Nader swishing around as Siddo.

"Whatever happened to Sandra Dee?'

She couldn't bear the shame of being mocked in the musical Grease and she descended into a hell of dolls and booze.

Unfortunately, she will become like Brenda Frazier in Follies and be replaced by a name that young people can identify with.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

So Gidget "volunteers" for a job at the UN. How does she pay her rent? Does she accept tips for escorting diplomats from the UN back to their apartments?

Of course my real Karen Valentine was Room 222 Karen Valentine but I remember Gidget Grows Up Karen Valentine and also her own sitcom, Karen, which was ABC's attempt at having a Mary Tyler Moore Show. Back then a network tried really hard to make somebody happen.

When I got to high school, guess what my homeroom was Freshman year? Room 222. I was the only one who cared and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Room 222 is one of those shows that's a total blind spot for me. I don't ever remember seeing it.

It's before your time. But it was pretty groovy for something that tried hard to be groovy. Little me valued the episode where a young Anthony Geary excelled at playing Shakespeare's women's roles and somebody wrote Fag on his locker. This aired within a year of Stonewall.
