That is terrible.
"Police say they were talking to the girl's friends, neighbors and relatives for information about the missing legs."
The story in itself isn't funny but I found the above sentence quite amsuing for some reason.

Posted: 2/19/06 at 4:47amThis is very sad, but you can't help think of the comic possibilties. I mean, if I saw her waiting for a train I couldn't help but ask how she was getting on. Updated On: 2/19/06 at 04:47 AM

That's disgusting.
Who in the right mind would steal a girl's prosthetic legs, people are so sick minded.

I saw this earlier today, but I was at work and didn't have time to read the story. I wish they'd said what the graffiti was.
"Huff said she and her family believe the thief knows her.
'It doesn't bother me,' she said. 'I'm not scared of them.'"
Rival softball team? Crazy stalker? Drunk Uncle with poor taste in humor?

"Melissa Huff's mother found the legs in her unlocked car..."
UNLOCKED car...shows the irresponsibility of the family. Sad and disgusting, yes (the fact that they were stolen), but the family needs to stop being so careless.

Posted: 3/7/06 at 12:12amWell, it might be easy enough to be careless the first time, but it gets stolen a SECOND time, and returned just as mysteriously? Also, one leg gets stolen, people raise money to buy you a new one that also gets stolen, so they raise MORE money to buy you a new one - and each time after the money gets raised the legs appear again? There's something more going on here.

I was thinking that. Scam, maybe, but what's the payoff? A bunch of prosthetic legs...
Maybe a book deal or Movie of the Week?
That's why I stuck with my safe, non-comittal "something more". I can't figure out what there is to gain here.

Prosthetic legs are worth a lot on the black market; that was thought to be a motivation for the thefts in the first place.
But I like to believe the best about people; maybe the family is just really scatterbrained.

I'm sooooo going to hell. After I read your post, Plum, the first thought that popped into my head was, "Well, she did lose her own leg...."
I know, I know, IknowIknowIknow. It was a car accident. But that didn't stop the thought from going through my head.
Deep down inside, I must be a really bad person....... 8-p
