Glen Campbell says he has Alzheimer's

My best wishes to him, and to his family, as they navigate the difficult road ahead.


"Rhinestone Cowboy" singer Glen Campbell says he is in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease, and has recorded one last album as a farewell to his fans.

Campbell, 75, had been suffering from short-term memory loss for years, but the terminal Alzheimer's diagnosis only came six months ago, according to an interview published in People magazine on Wednesday.

"I still love making music," he was quoted as saying. "And I still love performing for my fans. I'd like to thank them for sticking with me through thick and thin."

Campbell's wife, Kim, said they decided to go public with his diagnosis ahead of a final concert tour this fall.

"Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer," she said. "But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn't want people to think, 'What's the matter with him? Is he drunk?'"

What a terrible ordeal. I went through this with my step mother in law and her final five years were terrifying for her, and us! Not only were there imagined people in every mirror (which I had to remove) and vanishing food daily (hoarding ice cream or sandwiches between her mattress and box spring) but the visiting nurse and social worker we enlisted for help were robbing us blind. The mirrors I had taken down disappeared, as did money and Omaha Steaks and the list goes on.

God Bless Glen Campbell, his family and his handlers.

This is really sad news. I remember as a kid and his massive radio hit, "Rhinestone Cowboy". That song was EVERYWHERE. Years later was very surprised that he actually tried his hand at acting, co-starring with John Wayne and Kim Darby in the original 1968 version of "True Grit" and another lesser known effort with Darby entitled, "Norwood" which also co-starred Joe Namath.

My best wishes and blessings go out to him and his loved ones. He is an extremely gifted and talented performer.
