Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli almost did Gypsy at Carnegie Hall

joevitus said: "Garland should have been cast in the movie. With all her erratic qualities at that point in her career, what would have wound up on the screen would have been worth it. Russell was awful (great in the right role--this wasn't the right role for her) and Merman might not have faired so well, either, as what she had didn't really translate to the screen.

Liza as Louise, though, on stage or screen would have been a waste of her. Louise is supposed to la

Why don’t they remount A Chorus Line at the Shubert?

You might want to rethink the shows you chose to make your point. Of the five you listed, one hasn’t had a proper Broadway revival since its original 1981 production.

Dreamgirls has had zero Broadway revivals since 1981—the national tour’s brie

That trailer was fire, and that cast is stacked.

I am looking forward to seeing this in May.

Official: TITANIQUE to dock at the St. James, March 2026 (16 Weeks Only)

Gotta love the irony — calling someone rude by being rude AND disrespectful.

I’m honestly baffled by how worked up some forum members are getting over a harmless stage parody that’s only running for 16 weeks. As someone else on this thread wisely pointed out, this isn’t Medea or Oedipus Rex.

“What an eyesore. Then again, I haven’t been a fan of any of the graphics for this revival — they all look surprisingly amateurish, very ‘bus and truck.’

Considering he seems to be elevating many stage writings to a screen treatment (see the recent WSS and his AIA miniseries), I think this is a great way of helping theatrical works be accessible to the masses.

I give him points on the scoreboard for that.

I give him points on the scoreboard for simply putting pen to paper. That man

I did have trouble with the ending because Blythe Spirit does not end that way. There he is left being tormented by both of the ghosts which is a funny ending and offers much room for physical comedy and special effects to end the show on a high note. Was this the actual ending of the musical or was this tink

I f*cking hate what they did with “Gimme Love”

What was Condon thinking?!?!?!

Worst stage to screen adaptation - it’s right up there with “Man of La Mancha”.

I was actually surprised that Encores selected it, since I thought there were a lot of other old musicals from the 60s / early to mid-70s with better scores that I do not think have been done, e.g., The Roar of the Greasepaint; Over Here; Purlie; (don't laugh) Coco!, Hallelujah! Baby!, The Happy Time, Darling of the Day, Half a Sixpence! and even Drat! The Cat!, to name some off the top of my head."

The show, like Grease was written in the 70s as a nostalgic parody of the 1950s -in the case of The Rocky Horror Show, the popular "B" horror mov
