Gloria

I saw Gloria at the Angelika last night and thought Paulina Garcia gave one of the better female performances of the year. I know we had a thread about foreign actors who have been snubbed for Oscar nominations before and Garcia needs to be added to the list.

The film is a beautiful character study about a divorced woman in her late 50s who will not succumb to loneliness. Garcia is SO lovable and imbues Gloria with so much happiness and laughter that I found it impossible not to root for her.

Although the film is short on plot I still wouldn't watch the trailer because it gives away some major sight gags/a final plot point.

I was such a fan of Frances Ha, and in a way this is a similar story, but with actors from an older generation. There's also lots of great music in the film. Garcia is not to be missed!

Gloria

Whizzer, thank you for this post.

I saw Gloria a few months ago and loved it. Paulina Garcia is wonderful.

I agree about the trailer - I saw the film first and then went online to watch the trailer and as usual nowadays, the whole plot and a lot of the highlights are featured.

I have always loved the song Gloria, but never have I enjoyed hearing it as much as I did in this movie.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Gloria

Ha, I can't get that damn song out of my head!! I've tried listening to everything and I'm still bopping along to "Gloria."

Do you know what the song was that everyone sang at the engagement party while the guys played the guitar and piano? It was catchy and fun.

Gloria

Whizzer, I'm guessing as I would need to see the film again to be sure - was it Waters of March? (a stick, a stone.. .) I don't know the rest lol

Gloria

When I saw Nebrasksa (WHICH I LOVED!) the other night, I saw the Gloria trailer and was totally charmed by it.
