It's 4:30 A.M. and I'm posting on BroadwayWorld. Yes, I am a devoted fan.
My first produced play (Cinderella's Will) opens tonight (June 24) and I'm just so nervous! Not to mention, my folks will be seeing it. How do the professional actors here calm their nerves?
There are just so many different answers to that question - many I know do it by taking Yoga and meditation. Unprofessional actors do it with alchohol or drugs (ever try performing in a show with someone who's had a few drinks or his drug of choice right before going on? its NOT fun) Others work out (I like that one, along with the yoga) some pray (I usually do this just before stepping into the lights on stage at my first entrance)so I'm sure you'll find some way to calm yourself - try thinking of anything BUT whats about to happen - take your mind somewhere else, especially if its a place you love - that can help a lot...
Loud music. I'm not kidding. I always listen to, like, Iron Maiden or something. It calms me. But, if metal's not your thing, try something you like. Like your favorite CD.
A little Sondheim never hurts!
Good luck!
Yoga. Do it.
I alway play loud showtunes before a show (i'm only 13 so you don't gotta listen but whatever) just try not to play one were you'll be tempted to sing along cause i've almost lost my voice that way!
try sleeping.
