Golden Globe Nominations

I think Judi Dench did a wonderful acting job, but I don't think that the film was all that great.

And American actresses what's up here? Trying to get by on your pretty faces ain't cutting it.

Yay for Tatiana Masley, but I'm a bit surprised Orphan Black didn't pick up more nominations. And it's really weird seeing so many films that played to a few festivals picking up so many nominations. I guess it doesn't matter, but it seems like the trend has really picked up in popularity.

Super excited that Tatiana Maslany got a nomination for Orphan Black. Super irritated that Kathy Bates didn't get one for American Horror Story.

Horror Story's inclusion in Mini-Series makes even less sense considering it hasn't finished (what do we say Season? mini-eason?) yet. Also baffled by Kathy Bates' exclusion. I've always considered the Globes the joke awards show, but even more-so this year for a variety of reasons.

Golden Globe Nominations

The TV ones fold too much into comedy series/Drama series/TV movie/mini-series so hence how some people got knocked out.

Kathy Bates really should have gotten in, she transcends all the Ryan Murphy nonsense and gives a fantastic turn in COVEN. Don't even get me started on the Anna Gunn snub, absolutely absurd.
Oh, and American actresses are doing fine, thank you, just because they were mostly nominated in comedy does not mean they are less worthy: Amy Adams, Julia-Louis Dreyfus, Meryl Streep and Greta Gerwig are all giving raved-about turns in their respective films.

Disappointed that Orange is the New Black did not pick up more nominations either. I agree that I feel the awards may need to start splitting up for cable, network, etc... I guess I just find it frustrating that I don't get networks like HBO or Showtime. And a lot of network shows are being shut out now. I know some people don't care or think it is proof now that network tv is bad, but the other reality is, you can do more on cable and the paid networks.

And I kind of wish Taylor Schilling was not the nominee for Orange. I like her, but I like the other characters better than Piper. Like Taryn Manning is a riot as Pennsatucky. Or Danielle Brooks as Taystee.

beautywickedlover---That moment was great! Maybe Fey&Poehler will lay off her this year because Woody Allen is being honored with the Cecil B. DeMille award. If you get my drift..

(Woody is not showing up)

Golden Globe Nominations

Matt, curious what other nominations you would give ORPHAN BLACK?

For a show that's such a genre exercise on such a niche network in Hollywood, any and all energy for nominations understandably must be spent focusing on the show with the girl who plays eight roles and how amazing she is. And considering the Globes, lest we forget, are the wine-and-dine glitz-and-glamour awards, not a Critics' Choice affair, I think it's amazing that Maslany finally made her breakthrough here.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
