Scolding accepted. :)
We were respected before Bush--we went from such deep sympathy over 9/11 to absolutely the opposite. Only one man and his administration is to blame for that: Bush.
that all depends on where you're looking for respect. and don't confuse sympathy with respect. everybody feels sorry for a victim. that's not to say they respect them. it's very easy to say how sorry you feel and to talk a good game, but actions have always and will always speak louder than words. the un likes to condemn people and to talk and talk and talk while those about whom they talk continue to do whatever it is they were being condemned for. the us upset the applecart and with good reason, status quo was taking us down a road to armageddon. and why not? our enemies believe that no matter who or how many they kill, they will receive rewards not in this life but the next and they were convinced that the united states was a paper lion. afghanistan was nice and it was good to go after the taliban, but iraq was necessary to change the paradigm. years from now when an independent iraq is naming schools after paul bremer and george bush and iranians have tossed off the yoke of their mullahs and oil prices are at a historic low, will those who scream so loudly now feel chastised? doubtful, they never do.
Rigged or not, the electoral college concept sucks either way.

What's the Electoral College's theatre department like? Can I get in if I have really low SAT scores? Should I take the SAT IIs for EC? The ACTs? The GOPs? The CIAs? What GPAs do they look for?
Will they accept my essay on why Idina has the lowest low-note and personifies racial diversity, entitled "Who Says It's Not Easy Being Green"?
not everyday you see a girl that green, got the blues that bad.
without the electoral college you would have less populated states with little or no representation in the election process which would undermine the entire concept of federalism and probably lead to seccessions and eventually civil war, 'cuz them states is the ones with all them radical militia members.
How many of you can actually give a real definition of what the electoral college even DOES - and what it was intended to do?

A quote from M J R's link:
"The federal government was created by the States to be subservient to them. Role reversal occurred during the New Deal when FDR pushed through hundreds of unconstitutional laws that created massive bureaucracy..."
Wasn't FDR a Democrat? Leave it to them Dems to do unconstitutional things. Calling Michael Moore and his camera.
It must be very lonely being in NYC...
oh, i don't know, jrb, i know lots of beautiful people (male and female) right here in nyc whose politics make ann coulter look like eleanor roosevelt. just because you don't know them or see them doesn't mean they don't exist.

They exist; trust me. But that's the beauty of the city- there are lots of different opinions on everything. Even if the state usually falls on the side of the Dems in the end.
Slate says New Jersey is a swing state, though. I thought NJ was consistently Democratic?
