Hey guys,
I'm working as an assistant on a graduate student film in the metropolitan area. Recently I've been helping the wardrobe department. One of our actors is playing the role of a very stylish but bookish college student. I know...stylish and bookish, whaaa?
I guess that's the only way I can describe it. He's a Manhattan college student who wears reading glasses and I've been asked to see if I can find a nice pair of fake glasses (glasses that appear to be glasses but the lenses are just clear plastic that will not harm our actor's eyes as he has to wear them for an extended period of time). Does anyone know where I would go to find a simple yet somewhat stylish pair of faux glasses?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much.

The easiest solution is to go to your optometrist ( I assume SOMEONE involved in the project actually wears glasses) and ask to borrow one os the sample pairs of eyeglass frames they have there in the room where you choose your frames. These usually have plain glass in them.

They're sometimes sold as accessories in regular clothing stores, though I wouldn't count on them being regular items. Try places that cater to high school students who want to look preppy. :)
Buy a nice-looking pair of sunglasses and pop the lenses out. This avoids the glare of lights on the lenses, too.
mistress, you are so smart!
Aww... blushing.
I do have a trick or two up my costumer's sleeve.
Glasses without lenses will show on film, on stage no, but film yes.

My optometrist has a whole drawer of frames that are either defective or broken. He's always let me go through the drawer and choose what I wanted for the various shows I've been in. Sometimes they needed a little glue or a wire pocked here or there, but they've always been fine.
You can promise the optometrist credit in the program. They usually like that.
