Good places to shop for Dresses in NYC??

Hey, my sweet sixteen is coming up and its time for dress shopping! So I was wondering if anyone knew of some boutiques or something with dresses and such that are one of a kind. 'Cause everywhere on the island has pretty much the same stuff. So yeah. My parents are willing to spend up to 300ish. I'm not looking for Haute-Couture or anything. Just a nice cocktail dress that's glittery!! (sorry if this post is illegible. my brain is fried from a global test 3rd pd.) Thanks!

My fav place to shop for dresses is Macy's in Herald Square. They usually have a very large selection, especially now with proms and formals coming up. And it's not too expensive either.

I know it's not a glamorous place though...
