Needless to say, the CEO/creators, all under 30, are somewhat set for life.

I wonder if this will have any effect on the content.

I am always amazed how people come up with these ideas, and then turn around and sell it somewhere down the road to become gazillionaires!

Dottie---I agree. Let's put that on our "things to do list."

1) come up with something cool that everyone (well, almost everyone) wants and likes

2) sell it to someone else for $$$

3) retire happy

Google is incredibly greedy. It already owns Google Video. Isn't that enough for them? Aren't they rich enough?

'That site' was also in the news this morning concerning contract deals with major media outlets - so the site content and useage is almost certainly going to change.

I wonder if Google will get rid of all of the illegal content.

Hamburger earmuffs!?!

Oh, Calvin---This will never do.

EDIT: BTW, the bigger they get, the more they're going to be big targets for nasty law suits. It was only a matter of time anyway...

"Johnny, tell them what they've bought!"

"Well, Bob, it's a very cool Web site... with a lifetime supply of litigation! That's right, we've got a one-way trip to Leavenworth for you and your entire Googly team!"

*applause*

Since the castration of Napster, sites know better than to flaunt copyright violation completely. That's why YouTube has been making all those content deals with big corporations- to make itself a safer buy for Google.

And Google Video didn't have nearly as much content as YouTube; if Google wants to be online video central it did well to buy out YouTube instead of trying to compete.

This is a paragraph from a story now on MSN:

The price makes YouTube Inc., a still-unprofitable startup, by far the most expensive purchase made by Google during its eight-year history. Last year, Google spent $130.5 million buying a total of 15 small companies.

In other words, someone got really lucky. I was kind of wondering where or how YouTube was making their money and it shows that they were still in the red.

I always take my business cues from television shows so my money-making scheme is...

1. Collect underpants
2. ?
3. Profit!

Universal publicly threatened to sue YouTube before reversing and signing a partnership with the company last week to distribute its music videos. Universal was persuaded after YouTube agreed to pay a small licensing fee for the material and to share associated advertising revenues. It has also pledged to implement new systems to strengthen its copyright protections.

So by going ahead with lawsuits against other such sites, they're trying to eliminate the competition, I guess.
