Graduation ceremonies- Broadway songs?

I saw the program for my cousin's high school graduation and it listed "Seasons of Love". I'm curious if any other graduation ceremonies (this year, or previously) included Broadway songs.

So, whether or not they were Broadway songs, what was your "Senior Song?"

I graduated in 2002 and our song was Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" I'm willing to bet that I'm not the only one on this board who used this song, too!

Well, of course, "For Good" is a VERY popular choice right now.

Seasons of Love was our baccaleureate. Everyone was SO excited. I've heard the song way too much. Our graduation song (which is today re: Graduation ceremonies- Broadway songs?) is Bridge Over Troubled Water.

The graduation song at my school last year was "For Good."

At my brother's high school graduation they sang a medley of songs from Rent which included "Will I," "Seasons of Love," and "Finale B."

Too bad about a third of the choir was completely tone deaf.

My high school did Seasons of Love and This is the Moment (from Jekyll & Hyde). That was several years ago, so I would not be suprised if they had moved on to Wicked.

You'll Never Walk Alone from Carousel is all about graduation. Not my pesonal favorite, but...

And yes, For Good is very popular (I heard it at my niece's graduation).

I graduated some time ago. Our senior song was "Forever Young" by Alphaville. Great song - great lyrics (not to be confused with the Rod Stewart song. Completely different song).

At my old high school the seniors always sing "Letting Go" from Jekyll and Hyde at the end of the last big choir concert. Needless to say, I got VERY sick of that song.

And am I the only one who finds it completely ironic that we sang "Lonesome Road" at my senior convocation?

Oh, my god, peach, me too! =) "Forever Young" by Alphaville.

You know, there's a cover of that song that's pretty popular right now. By some Australian band. It's on the O.C. soundtrack album, etc. I bet the kiddies don't even know it's a cover. re: Graduation ceremonies- Broadway songs?

Aww...Lucky you! New wave chick that I was, I WANTED my high school graduation song to be either Forever Young by Alphaville or Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds! The stoners on the student council picked Ramble On by Led Zeppelin. I love me some Zeppelin, but it didn't make much sense.

For sixth grade graduation, we sang White Lace and Promises, and I had to sing a solo of Barry Manilow's I am Your Child.

Actually, I sang Seasons of Love at my graduation from elementary school, and it was my first introduction to Rent.

Yeah...we didn't have a senior song. Catholic schools are cheap.

Hey, blueroses - Yeah, I was lucky. The New Wavers outnumbered the rockers at my school, so not only did we have "Forever Young" for our senior song, but our junior prom theme was "I'll Stop The World And Melt With You." lol (I don't remember what our senior prom theme was...I think they ended up picking some Billy Joel song, which is probably why I don't remember it now.)

Fantabulous, you just made me feel REALLY OLD!

My school's senior song is always "Like an Eagle" by ? (some pop composer I'm sure) because the school mascot is...an eagle.

The other songs performed during graduation change from year to year, depending on what the choir director feels like singing.

We had a split of new wavers, artsies (who hung out with the new wavers) jocks and rockers at my high school. Good thing is we new wavers and artsies got together and won out on picking the song - must have been our black turtlenecks and Doc Martens that got the Alphaville song!

Let's all sing, shall we?

My senior song was "for those about to rock" by AC/DC. The choir didnt sing it thank god! thats the song the students voted for so thats what we got to rock out to on graduation day.

2 years ago when my brother graduated (I was a freshman) we sang "Seasons of Love", which was why I got interested in Rent. Last year we sang "For Good" *gag me*. This year we're singing an arrangement of "A Change In Me" from Beauty and the Beast because that was our musical this year. It's strange, we've had 3 different choir directors in the last few years and strangely enough all of them have stuck with Broadway songs.

My school's senior song this year was "Another One Bites the Dust" because they went from a class of about 30 to a class of 11. It was funny.

Elphaba, actually we did have a class flower, as well. It was a white rose, I think (can't remember for sure). We voted to determine which flower the girls would carry when walking into the ceremony. We also had class colors, but I never understood the significance of that. No class bird, though. re: Graduation ceremonies- Broadway songs?
