It is, bway!
My shiba could learn to like the Elphapug, if I condition it as a puppy.
Well, if I ever get over my pet issues to ever have a pet.
When you decide to, Cookie, you'll be very happy.
Funny thing is, everyone keeps asking me why the Pooch isn't potty-trained but he IS! He gets so worked up on weekends because my apartment is full of people. There's never an accident when he's not overly excited in front of a crowd.
So, I know you think I make it sound like he's a little poo machine but he's really not and it really doesn't even happen as often as I joke about it. Just make sure your Shiba doesn't shed. Pugs shed. A lot. My vaccuum gets quite the workout.
I think Brussels Griffon's are adorable.
But they're jumpy.
*boing*
better close the window, Addy!!
bway: The Elphapug is a people puggy! But then he poops.
Yep. He LOVES people. He is skittish around most dogs but he generally likes them. In fact, he's never barked at another dog or attempted to bite one.
He's a very amiable animal what makes doodies at unexpected and inopportune moments.
He loved Muffy!
...and girls in bikinis.
He loves all girls. It's weird. Two girls live directly across from ym apartment and, as I was taking him out yesterday afternoon, they came out. I let them go down the stairs first (after they played with the Elphapug, of course) and he whined his way down the stairs after them.
It's sweet!
Oh, we met a...shoot, I've blanked on the name. It's VERY similar to a Shiba inu, kind of looks like a terrier, too...darn it. They're adorable. Now THAT dog, Addy, was jumpy! When I can think of the name, I'll find a picture of it.
Did the dog make flying leaps across the room?
The dog was crazy! I am so blanking on the name and the weird thing is, I guessed the name when I asked his owner. And now I can't remember it.
The dog run in my neighborhood is huge and the pooch was hauling it all over...right up until he ran headfirst into the picnic table.
It was quite comical and really only embarrassed the dog.
Awww...
Found it!
It was a Basenji. Here's a pic, although the one I saw was much prettier, brighter colored.
oh, cute!
It was a really fun dog. Definitely a people AND dog dog.
What about allergies? Is it a good dog for people with allergies?
You have taxed my knowledge of the basenji. And, since I'm only allergic to cats, I've never bothered to check on the hypo-allergenic status of most dogs.
Try puppyfind.com or...shoot, I think it's dogdictionary.com.
That's an issue I need to check with too... Whether or not I am allergic to doggies.
hey!! i own a basenji. (well, he owes me but you get the idea).
basenji's are highly intelligent animals that need lots of exercise. they are quite a challenging breed to own and anyone interested in them should read up on them before owning one.
as bway mentioned they are extremely quick (although mine, bailey, does not apparently have the so-called embarrassment emotion, or nerve endings). he can run into a brick wall and just shake it off without any sort of reaction whatsoever.
i would imagine that he is good with allergies since he doesn't shed and they are very clean. they actually clean themselves like cats - and also like to be high up. high fences are needed if you plan to have one and allow it outside.
the breed is described as aloof but mine loves people and other animals. he loves to cuddle and his favorite place is on his father's lap. actually, the one trait that may cause people to call him aloof is that he will never, ever come when called.
they are fiercely independent and stubborn. the best way to get a basenji to do anything is to have them think it is their idea in the first place.
a good basenji resource for photos, stories and even adoption is
