Okay, so our director has been dropping hints about what our next musical will be, and she has two ideas in mind. I was wondering if any of you guys could help guess what it will be, because we are somewhat stumped. Here's the criteria:
*both set in the 1700's
*both on Broadway
*one had a recent Broadway revival (but recent is relative)
*one in foreign country
*one that has more dominant males
*both focus on acting
*one is dark
*old
*one made into a movie
*one person dies in one
*one has a lot of dancing
*not Lloyd Webber, Rodgers and Hammerstien or Sondheim =(
*more than five leads
*big ensembles
*not mushy

It would be awesome if one of you knew a musical that fit the criteria.

Maybe Les Miz? That fits into some of it.

1776 maybe? But that's not so great a guess.

*both set in the 1700's
*both on Broadway
*one in foreign country (technically it wasn't America :) )
*one that has more dominant males
*both focus on acting
*old
*one made into a movie
*more than five leads
*big ensembles (i dont really know for 1776)
*not mushy

I don't think Brigadoon was in the 1700's but I could be wrong too.

Also, Jekyll and Hyde seems to fit most of the characteristic pretty well.

Did she mean "on broadway" as in currently, or has it just been on Broadway before? There's not many musicals that schools do that haven't been on Broadway, but...

-Was that a fart?
-My fault, I fear.

Thank you all so much for responding. We found some new info...
*They are now considering another show, but when I asked for hints, I couldn't get anything. But she did say it is definetely not 1776, thank god. And it is not on Broadway, currently. The Scarlet Pimpernel and Jekyl and Hyde are really good ideas, so thanks for those.

Brigadoon was based to be in the 1740's in Brigadoon, and 1940's outside of it. However, kilt-wearing had stopped by 1935.

Hah, WSS2, I LOVE Jekyll & Hyde...I was thinking that I'd be glad in the same fashion.

Maybe it was just after thinking that we might be forced through 1776, J&H sounded like a pleasure cruise. It's not Brigadoon either. It may be Drood, because it all fits besides the century, and there were some additional personal clues (like that the local dinner theatre has done it, etc.).
