2 good shows in a row. Can it do the hat trick?
Love the Spitzer bit at the end.

Posted: 1/16/11 at 3:42pmI was not impressed by Gwyneth. The only good bit all night was the short film with PeeWee.

She spoke in three languages, sang several times, and fully committed to every skit she was in. She was a very good host - not as good as Jim Carey, but good.
Then again, anything with LESS Wiig and Armisen makes me enjoy it more!

I used to be okay with Armisen. He had some versatile, original characters that he has not done in years. I seriously do have to question why he is still doing Obama when you have Jay Pharoah in the cast, and does a great impression. There are guesses it is seniority or Lorne's ego- whatever. Pharoah has been my favorite new player since Hader/Samberg came on board.
Wiig is overexposed. Her and Armisen seemed to have been tagged as the must-players for either female or minority characters, especially in impressions of real people.
It wasn't as good as the last-time Gwyneth hosted but, I was entertained.

Not only is Wiig over-exposed, but she's simply not funny. All her characters are the same twitchy creations which weren't funny the first time, and CERTAINLY aren't after the umpteenth time we've seen them -- in the same skit over and over.
I'm glad they've been using Bill Hader and Jason Sudekis more - they are both talented and funny more often than not.
Completely agree about Armisen and the Obama impression. Maybe SNAFU can answer why they haven't let Pharaoh do it instead...

Paltrow was fantastic.
And, please--Wiig is brilliant. We just can't like ANYthing for too long without a nice ol' American backlash. A year ago or so we were raving that it was The Kristin Wiig show and now we can't stand her. To quote one of her many genius characters, 2 "Ohhh Brother!!!" and 4 "Whaaat?"

Posted: 1/18/11 at 10:37amI can honestly say I never found her funny, never raved about her. It's not backlash, she's just not funny.

Posted: 1/18/11 at 10:39amI think she's hilarious. I'm also glad she's not as heavily featured lately because (contrary to what she believes), it's not her show. It's an ensemble show and the other women deserve a chance to show off their talents which they're getting to do a lot more of.
