In 1961 a then 19 year old Ann-Margret was profiled by Life magazine. The spread chronicled her arrival in Los Angeles to audition for a contract with 20th Century-Fox and a recording deal with RCA Victor records (she got both!) as well as a 10-day stint opposite the legendary George Burns in Las Vegas.

This is a slide show featuring all the pictures in the Life spread as well as many never-before published photographs taken by Life photographer Grey Villette.

Each photograph is accompanied by an interview conducted by then Life editor Richard B. Stolley with Ann-Margret as they reminisce about the Life article and the photographs.
