Posted: 11/16/08 at 5:44pmI love Petula! The funniest thing I ever heard was when I was in China Town in San Francisco and they were playing Georgie Girl (in Chinese) on the street!

I had the opportunity to spend time with her many years ago, when she was starring in "Blood Brothers" on Broadway.
My former roommate (Shauna Hicks) was in the production, so I was invited to spend time with her, and she was just lovely!
Happy Birthday, Petula!

Posted: 11/16/08 at 5:50pmNYadgal- Now those are the kinds of stories I love to hear! and Blueroses, I thought I remembered Petula singing Georgie Girl on some of the talk shows in the 70's. I've always associated that song with her (but I could be wrong)

Interesting. I love the original, but it would be fun to hear Petula's take.
Downtown always puts me in a good mood!

Love Petula but I need a little more convincing that she's really 76. I think the numbers got transposed. Maybe she's just 67. It doesn't matter really, I won't cry in the roaring rain over it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUV

Happy Birthday Petula !!! "Kiss Me Goodbye" remains my favorite Petula song.
From Wikipedia...
Petula Clark, CBE (born 15 November 1932), is an English singer, actress and composer best known for her upbeat popular international hits of the 1960s, especially "Downtown". With more than 70 million records sold worldwide, she is the most successful British female solo recording artist and is cited as such in the Guinness Book of World Records. She also holds the distinction of having the longest span on the UK pop charts of any British female artist — 54 years — from 1954, when "The Little Shoemaker" made the UK Top Twenty, to 2008, when her CD Then & Now: The Very Best of Petula Clark debuted at #17 on the UK Albums Chart .
She really is 76 years young.

Petula was a child star in Great Britain in the '40s.
Her big pop career in the '60s was a bit of a comeback for her... and she was in her thirties when she hand her first #1 American hit with "Downtown."
She has had a long and varied career! Here's to Petula!

I've loved her singing since I first heard "Downtown" as a very small boy. Later, I've seen her perform in many concerts and as Maria in a 1982 revival of "Sound of Music" in London (do the maths, she was 50 then!!!) and of course as Norma Desmond in the West End run of Sunset. I think I saw that 15 times!!!!! I've interviewed her for Radio and she gave me tea in her dressing room. Even now, when I turn up at the stage door after a concert, she calls me her "little welsh man". She can't remember my name obviously, but who cares!!!!
She is one of my true idols, I've loved her for 44 years and it's about time the British Governmant made her a "Dame" as they have with Julie Andrews, Shirley Bassey, Cleo Laine and Judi Dench.
Rant over, will some one please park my soap box for me. Thank you!!!!

I love that you've interviewed her!
And I'd knight her if I could, but I can't. So rant away!
