There's more than one, and I saw this on the news tonight. The HIV progresses very fast, resists all drugs, and usually turns to AIDS in 3 months. Scary...
I'm not a doctor, but this sounds EXACTLY like what was warned to the HIV Positive in still needing to practice safe sex. A lot of people think it's ok to have unsafe sex with other HIV partners. The fact is that not all HIV strains are alike. And you can collect various strains that will make it much harder to treat. So, all of this unsafe sex has passed along either multiple strains at a time or one massively mutated strain.
It's very scary and very sad.
I've got the news on in the background and they just talked about this.
So sad ans so scary.
I can understand it you're on drugs and forget, but WHY do people in their right mind still not protect themselves?
I think people have been lured into a false sense of safety in the last ten years or so. With so many advancements in the treatment of HIV/Aids young people think it’s not that big of a deal. Or worse, that there is a cure. I fear a whole new outbreak of full blown AIDS is coming. People, please be careful. I am addressing this to all the young, just coming out and any one, straight or gay who is becoming sexually active. You must take this very seriously, it CAN happen to you and if you do not practice safe sex, it probably will. And don’t forget alcohol and drugs will effect your judgment.
Yes, please do be careful. I just read an article this week that showed the fastest growing demographic with AIDS is young black women.
I think women of all kind are outgrowing men with the virus. No matter what anyone thinks, it's not a gay disease.
particularly ya'll in n yc since that's where the new strain was found.
superbug!
Of course it was, papa. Everything is faster in NYC.
Of course, New York is only a short flight from Ohio.
'bout an hour from akron/canton to laguardia, sueleen, via airtran's non-stop service. buy far enough in advance and it's $49 one way!
Bronx, I'm not sure your "I can understand if you're on drugs and forget" is a reasonable excuse for having unprotected sex.
ever done drugs, there, ga?

Papa - there's a difference between 'excuse' and 'reason'.
I work with people who have developed renal (kidney)failure. Of the two dozen or so individuals I have personally worked with who have HIV-related nephropathy, not a one of them, to the best of my knowledge, is gay.
and i contend that the difference between excuse and reason would lay in the specific pharmacological agent ingested.

and the case reported is a guy who uses meth. Could the meth be affecting the strains? I understand that meth definitely impairs judgement.
papa, I'll take the fifth on that, thanks. My point is that the drug we're referring to here, crystal meth, is KNOWN to drastically reduce inhibitions, and PERHAPS it'd be prudent not to take it?
What about a Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper?

iflit - that's certainly an interesting bit of info - I'm curious where the demographic you're covering is?
oooh, yes! A Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper would be divine!
is there a recreational drug available that doesn't lower inhibitions? well, for me that would be pot which makes me so damn paranoid i can't smoke it anymore ("they're coming through the f***ing roof, honey, any second! get my godd*mn gun, they'll never f***ing take me alive!!!").
if the only drug in question is crystal meth, then i wouldn't consider it an excuse or a reason because it doesn't alter reality to the effect that judgenment is completely inpaired. no excuse if you're doing meth, just a handy rationalization.
i was thinking of drugs in the larger sense, more in terms of hallucinogenics like lsd, pcp or psilocybin. those i would consider an excuse and a reason as a person under the influence of any of those cannot be expected to even comprehend where they are, much less what they are doing. god, i sometimes miss high school.
