Posted: 2/12/05 at 1:13pmPapa - I still contend that by making the choice to do them in the first place, you are abdicating rational responsibility. And just for the record, this is not the opinion of someone who has a drug-free past. Far from it.

Posted: 2/12/05 at 1:17pmplum, i am not aware of a single situation in unmarried life that could not lead to sex. especially in college, so watch out kids! sure it starts out with a 4 hour written exam, but it leads to a wild unprotected orgy of analytical excesses with naked nubile youths chanting about keynsian market forces while engaging in all manner of...of...i, uh, better stop now.

Posted: 2/12/05 at 2:03pmDG...the people with whom I work come predominently from the tri-state area (NY, NJ, and PA). I have gay men, lesbians, and even a trans-sexual, in my caseload, but none of them happen to be HIV positive. I'm not sure that there are any heavy conclusions to be drawn...that just happens to be my experience at this point in time.
#41after health alarm, what of politic-socio impact?

The health concerns are one issue, but in a world where the humanane, complicated ending of MILLION DOLLAR BABY can be seized by the Right as proof of liberal decadency ... what do people think the far Right media will make of this HIV case? I am expecting a fresh indictment of the 'gay lifestyle', as this will be seen as 'proof' of the impact of homosexual 'behavior' on civilization. This has such a feel of deja vu -- the early 80s when HIV was synonymous with one thing only: gay 'lifestyle.' I also think back on various Larry Kramer public warnings -- and as always, the relevance of his compassionate real world message in THE NORMAL HEART. To say nothing of his speech last fall on crystal meth and HIV symbiosis...
Get ready for new backlash.
