I know that my information was not accurate the last time I posted about the Season 4 premiere of Archer, and for that I sincerely apologize.
I was so giddy with excitement over the end of the interminable hiatus that I neglected to notice that I was reading--and passing on--the date for the Season Three premiere. Ooops.
But this time it's for TRUE.
Tonight. FX. 10PM EST.
ARCHER RETURNS!

Posted: 1/18/13 at 9:51amThat opening scene was one for the ages. I thought it would just be the exterior shot but then we saw the kids and then Linda actually talked and I screamed. Hopefully there is enough Bob's Burgers-Archer overlap to get that joke.

Posted: 1/18/13 at 12:35pmI actually screamed "Oh my God!" when they cold opened at Bob's Burgers. It was such a brilliant decision. LOVE LOVE LOVE this show so much. SO glad it's back. Televisions ickiest love triangle and the greatest bunch of loveable f*ck up drones in the world.

Brilliant and fun.
I loved seeing Linda and the kids rendered in the 'Archer' style of illustration.
I love that Ron Liebman--Jessica Walter's husband--voiced Malory's love interest.
I loved the long, slow reveal.
I loved the sly "History of Violence" references in the Bob's Burger scene.
I love how our incrementally-accrued knowledge of the show's narrative history--the story lines and the relationships of the characters--has gotten to the point that almost every line is a kind of deeply-rooted in-joke.
It makes watching a frivolous 30-minute cartoon incredibly rewarding.

You guys need to check out Frisky Dingo. It's by the same people who make Archer. It's a little more surreal than Archer but it has the same tone, style of animation, and humor.
Hilarious.

I forgot to mention you need to watch the episodes in order. A large portion of the humor is, and I'm gonna quote Addison because he expressed it so eloquently "(based on) our incrementally-accrued knowledge of the show's narrative history--the story lines and the relationships of the characters--has gotten to the point that almost every line is a kind of deeply-rooted in-joke."
Meanwhile Archer is up:
FX’s cult favorite animated series Archer returned Thursday night to its biggest adult demo rating ever. The spy comedy’s 10 p.m. season four premiere was seen by 1.6 million viewers (its second most-watched telecast of all time) and 1.3 million adults 18-49 (a series high) at 10 p.m. Nice to see this consistently clever show actually gain momentum four years into its run.

The thread topic sounds like something that Robin of Batman series might have uttered

Posted: 1/19/13 at 12:13pmI'd also recommend looking up Archer-related guests on Aisha Tyler's podcast called 'Girl on Guy'. H. Jon Benjamin was her first guest, actually, but there was also Chris Parnell, showrunner Adam Reed, and Amber Nash & Judy Greer (they're all wasted in a Comic-Con interview). My favorite detail in those podcast interviews are that there is a very high possibility Jessica Walter gets at most 50% of what Malory says and often after she does her lines for the day asks Adam Reed what each reference meant. And yes, Adam always tells her what they mean.

I always pictured all the actors standing around one of those big, perforated 1940's microphones, reading a script. I heard someone--I think it was Aisha Tyler--on 'The Nerdist' podcast, saying that each actor reads their lines independently, often doing multiple line-readings of every line. The perfectly-timed repartee and sparkling banter is all editing.
Is everybody but me rolling their eyes? Is this how everything is done nowadays?
Oy--you kids and your technology...

Thanks for 'Frisky Dingo' Taz. I immediately went to FXnetworks.com to watch. Sadly, they provide such a random selection of only recent episodes for streaming, and so I was not able to see anything from the first season, so I msised out on the ability to follow the arcs from the beginning.
I clearly see the potential, though. And it is obviously from the same beautiful minds as 'Archer'.
I love that Adam Reed--who's voice makes me almost as melt-y as H. J. Benjamin--is both Killface and Xander.

"Is everybody but me rolling their eyes? Is this how everything is done nowadays?"
That's how it's been done for a long time for animated films/series, actually.

As much as I love the characters in Archer, Killface is still the funniest character Adam Reed has created.
The accent is perfection.
Addison, the dvds of both seasons are available on amazon for $15.00 each.

This is kinda cool. It's the models the characters are based on.

Awesome.
BTW--I am **loving** 'Frisky Dingo'. I bought the DVDs from Amazon (you might check with them about a commission on that sale...) and I'm on my third time through.
Exactly as described--a more random, more surreal product from the mind of Adam Reed. Love the Xtacles!

Ha! I'm so thrilled you got those Addison!
The sheer number of subplots is dizzying, and yet they all end up tying together by season's end.
Killface is in a league by himself, but otherwise I couldn't even begin to choose a favorite character.
Welcome To You're "DOOM"

"What does that even mean?? And why--for God's sake--is "Doom!" in quotes?
Is this some sort of ironic doom?"

"Eager to know why you're here"
A nothing line like that becomes a jewel when Killface says it. His tone, his accent, just everything.

And there is practically NO dialogue that isn't packed with 'stuff'.
I had to re-play the scene with Xtacles discussing "Flowers for Algernon" a half-dozen times to get it all--from 'Algernon' to 'Harrison Bergeron' to 'Tom Bergeron' to "Brother of Menelaus!!!" "No! That's Agamemnon!!"
Too fu**king funny...

I'm right there with you my friend. I've watched every episode at least 6 times. Still find new things to laugh at.
Apparently there was a short lived Xtacles spinoff, but it was never released on dvd.
I'm hoping with Archer's success they will make it available again.
ETA: I just looked it up. It was only 2 episodes at 11 minutes each.
