The 700 Club is selling a bumper sticker similar to this. It has one of those "man" symbols they have on bathrooms + "woman" symbol = MARRIAGE. Yes, in all caps and bright red. People like this give other Christians a bad name.

Much like the civil rights battles of the 1960s, people fear acceptance of homosexuality because it will, in their minds, ring in the death of an era. It is the very antithesis of their conservative, religiously based way of life. They fear us. We are foreign to them. Thier whole lives we have been deemed sodomites and perverts. In their minds, acknowledging that gays are okay would be the same as saying that the Bible is wrong. Acceptance of us would mean the wrath of God..or at least the displeasur of having to admit that they were wrong, that their deeply held values are no longer of any relevance, that the world is passing them by.
