HS Musical 2
HS Musical 2#1
Posted: 8/17/07 at 8:17pmIt just started and I couldn't even get through the first 15 minutes...which is disappointing because I actually liked the first one.

Posted: 8/17/07 at 9:31pmThis is not nearly as good as the first. The little scenes at Kennny Ortega's house are so scripted and cheesy!

Posted: 8/17/07 at 11:42pmthe music is too "pop". at least the first one was a little more like musical theatre i think.

The story was actually better because it had more of a conflict, but Disney did not explore any of it. The Sharpay/Ryan relationship was more fascinating than anyone else's. They are actually the best written and most developed characters with the most talented actors in the whole movie.
The songs were really bad. No one was singing, the computer was.
Through out the whole movie I was getting visions of other musicals. When Zac was soloing on the course, I felt as if they were trying to set him up for his next role as Ren for Footloose. The talent show made me feel I was "having the time of my life" waiting for all the staff to join in and have Gabriella claim "No one puts Troy in a corner". The finale was out of place and just made me remeber From Jusitn to Kelly.
They wil sell millions because Disney owns us all.

Our High School Musical cast had a little reunion and we watched the movie and we were laughing so hard at times we missed a good two minutes because we were laughing at HOW BAD it all was.
Our favorite moment was:
Sharpay: Give me a beat.
*drummer plays*
Sharpay: *struts out*
And yet....we LOVED it.
We also thought there were a lot of moments in the Fabulous number Sharpay sings that looked like a skintimate commercial.
"Interesting choice"

Posted: 8/18/07 at 1:24pmI'm such a dork lol but I loved this movie!! I'd say that Lucas Grabeel probably came into his own and his character for me was the most interesting and developed! All of them did a great job I thought...even though it was more of a pop score I still think the movie as a whole was more mature. BUT that's just me lol

But you have to admit that alot of Musical Theater these days IS pop/rock stuff. Legally Blonde, Tarzan, Lion King are all pop scores. Spring-awakening, Rent, is pop-rock and the list goes on and on. Musical theater doesn't have to have a definite sound to it to be considered musical theater.

This movie was just not good. It was much worse than the first one. Did anyone notice the horrible lip-syncing throughout the entire movie? I wanted to throw something at my TV.
I love Lucas Grabeel though. He's my favorite character and I'm glad he got more screen time. "I Don't Dance" was my favorite number.
I laughed really hard during "Bet on It". It was so awful!

i think you're all misjudging the first movie. They're both equally bad which is why I love them. Which is why anyone over 16 loves them. I'm sad this movie wasn't as corny as the first one, but if this would have come out first and the first one second, no one would be pleased.
If nothing else, "Bet On It" is the best thing ever shown on television. For numerous reasons.

Posted: 8/20/07 at 11:50pmIt's not that I liked the first one, but it was good in that the the plot was simple and made you root for the character, and the songs (as annoying and stupid as they were) were good in that they were instantly infectious. This one had a similar amount of annoyingness, yet didn't have a solid storyline and the songs weren't even catchy.

WHO WANTS TO TELL DISNEY THAT COMPUTERS AND HUMAN BEINGS SOUND WAAAAAAAAAAAAY DIFFERENT FROM ONE ANOTHER?!?!?!
While I'm at it... how about the importance of MATCHING SOMEONE'S LIPS WITH THE COMPUTER THEIR VOICE IS BEING DISTORTED THOUGH???
I almost stabbed myself about ten thousand times during this show. I actually could not watch the whole thing. I couldn't take it and I had to leave the room a number of times.... !!!!
Yes, the idea is fun. Yes, it would be a BLAST to be a part of. But for whatever reason I cannot stand the sick, warped, fake, plasticness of it all! Besides which the fact that most are awful singers in real life... okay... maybe not most...
Corbing Blueu [quite frankly don't care how to spell his name] has a HORRENDOUS voice and better say a prayer of thanks for computers every day of his life! I've watched a few clips of him live and they are HORRID... not to mention it is just obvious on screen that he has no power in his voice or... like... any substance at all!
That Vanessa chick [don't know her last name] is oooozing with gooey processed cheese and how anyone can take her seriously is BEYOND me.
Zac Effron was perhaps my least favorite of all. I don't know why but i CANNOT STAND HIM! [even in Hairspray it was a chore...] Anyone notice that horribly melodramatic and over the top awful intense stare he ALWAYS gives OVER and OVER in the movie? Like he's staring right thru u and may attack and eat you alive! His facial expressions were enough to drive me INSANE.
And WHAT ON EARTH was up with that prancing about the golf course? It looked like an SNL or Mad TV immitation of the Teletubbies or something! When he sang to his computerized reflection? Picked up the sand? Looked at you like a Death Eater? I could not believe what I was watching was for serious!
Ugh...
that sounds like an awful review. Really, there were some fun moments... that Lucas guy was brilliant [the single handed most talented person in the show] and I loooved the Martha chick!
Maybe I'll wait a while and see if I can stomach the second half...
Now I'm off to horrendous nightmares of Zac Effrons face eerily peering into my soul... !!!

I was forced to watch this with my cousins, 9 and 2, respectively. I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, but this one was only good at the beginning and the end. That's it.
I had to laugh at Zac Efron's solo song, the one where he's in all black. :) And i know what you mean about the Zac Efron glare. Creeeepy.

I liked the songs from the first movie but hated the actual movie, and I liked the actual storyline of the second one but hated the music. Sharpay seemed a bit overdone during the golf scenes for be though? Am I alone in thinking these thoughts?
The last sentence of my post here seems poorly written. Ahhh life goes on.

Let me say I too hate that monstrosity that is High School Musical, both the original and its sequel. Has anyone seen the SNL parody featuring LeBron James? A lot of us can live without it. I shudder when I see all of its paraphenallia in stores. Everything about it has a plastic vibe about it, and could give a false impression on not just the acting world but the social nature and structure of high school.
Musicman and Andante, thank you for the thoughts of Zac Effron as the soul devourer when he glares. I'd take pitcher Andy Pettite's death stare over Zac's anyday.
Where are the cultural bolsheviks when you really need them, so we can work to overthrow stuff like this?
